Are there any games where you get to control the destroyers and hunt submarines? I think that would be a good change of pace.

SH3's predecessor, 'Silent Hunter 2' (surprise surprise) could be linked to a separate companion game called 'Destroyer Command'.

I've never played either game, but I'm sure some of the other regulars could tell you more about it.

I've been looking at dangerous waters on Gamespot. It's not released in the UK yet but there is a review for it here (http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/sim/dangerouswaters/review.html)

The graphics look pretty poor, but the gamepley is supposed to be good. I half remember a thread about it a while back but i can't find it. Might be worth a look.

Has anyone on here played it yet?

I played SHII for ages, then tried destroyer command. I felt like a traitor, like I was letting the team down, so I stopped playing it.

Dangerous Waters is not bad, but to tell the truth, with all of the sophisticated sensors, helicopters, ASW aircraft, and the fact that you can launch guided weapons from miles away, I don't find it as much "fun" as trying to work my way into 1200 yards or so. It's a matter of preference, but to me it's almost too easy.
