Terrific update. I'm impressed with the number of bombers in the sky. Presumably Oleg has found an acceptable way to limit AI calculations so the game doesn't turn into a slideshow.

Great update!

Damage modelling really looks great!

The spits on different shots however do have identical damage of nose section (bullet hits at exactly the same places, and propeller is bent in exactly the same way). Could it be the same plane?

Makes me wonder because I've read on couple occasions that damage modelling will include bullet holles appear exactly at the spot of hit...

I think it's the same Spitfire. Plane is rolling through some trees onto a field in one pic, and is one a field with some trees in the background on the next. Lighting seems inconsistent, though.

Bullet holes will be modeled individually, cannon explosions will produce standard damage textures.

Yay we can open canopies!

And I've been wondering, I sure hope that as far as damage model goes, planes don't lose parts/blow up at the moment of contact with each other or any other object that is not the ground (like in IL-2). It would be cool to be actually able to gently touch or push another plane in flight with your wing etc...not to have your wing fall off.

I also hope that planes without fuel won't just blow up the same way anyway when they hit the ground like in IL-2.

In first IL-2 you could cut enemy control surfaces with your propeller without suffering any damage. You had to be very careful not to bite in too deep when things could get messy, but it was possible. And also historical according to some accounts, without being illogical - propeller nevertheless was a very strong thing not ment to break up easily, whether control surfaces on the other hand were in many cases fabric covered and the weakest external part of the plane... Pity that this was changed. Now your engine is going to receive damage and stop no matter how gently you touch the weakest possible tail in the sim.

...or their fuel tanks burn like a torch when out of fuel.

Oleg:

Hurricane - in one of the next updates. Don't worry.

end quote.

Such a cool guy.

It is coming together beautifully.
I was/am still expecting to get more than I could imagine, and by the looks of things, none of us should be disappointed.

I like the wheat-field shot. Oleg just need to model a very cross farmer.

I hope there's an add on later that gives you a German "fly to Scotland and bail out" mission http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
