You need to lighten up dude. This is a game forum. Games are to have fun no?

Exactly what kind of responce did you expect from a thread like this? I'm good natured about American planes being bashed, but i'm also going to give it back to the German planes. It's all in good fun. Asking for someone to be banned is rediculous. He didn't break any rules to begin with.

KarayaX - they're only upset because their best looking plane was designed by a German then had to be powered by the British AND it still didn't look as good as the Spitfire.

Then, their second best looking plane looks like a dog turd that has passed through a particularly tight sphincter muscle looking at the taper at one end.

What did you expect? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Besides, best looking 109 by far is the Emil. It just has the look of malevolance about it.

Now, now, no need to get upset. It's not the German's fault that they had to design your aircraft for you.

I'd have to say that the 109, even while it looks like it's been cobbled together from stuff someone had lying around and, thus, being far from beautiful, is still better looking than the Jug.

It's no wonder they had put nose art on them - the 109 was a work of art, comparatively, with just a drab camo scheme(!)

Wow some really great pictures of the 109 and the pilots.

I like these posts. The 109 is an awesome plane and I respect the pilots who knew they had a low chance of coming back alive and still fought for their country during the latter years.

And just about as much as allied pilots as well because even though some of them hated Jews and wanted to exterminate them, almost all american pilots hated blacks and/or mexicans. Only difference is taht they weren't exterminating them.

Jealousy is such a terrible curse. One look at the topic and I knew the vultures would soon be circling. The P40 thread is left in peace because basically the plane is so cr@p no-one feels threatened. But when the true great comes out to play...

Somewhat concerned about BuzzU's homo comments(methinks he doth protest to much) and Monty Thrud's familiarity with butt-plugs.

quote:
KarayaX - they're only upset because their best looking plane was designed by a German then had to be powered by the British AND it still didn't look as good as the Spitfire.

Seem american could not make a hot plane, they need german for the airframe and brits for engine.

Without the brits engine p51 only sitting duck.

That too the base Airbuse has won over boing,

american are obsoletely and need help from more developed country,

europe make great plane and engine, that are sure much better as boing old development.

And btw, first people that had fly was a german and not a american, he was called Otto Lilienthal .

I wonder about the problems some people have. It seems, it's too boring at the moment in the forum. Or do we have little kids with their easy meanings here?
Some discussion-points and statements are simply ridiculous!

I (I'm german) like the 109 very much, together with the spit and the P-51. Where's the problem?
To break feelings/relations (better or worse ones) for some aeroplanes down to a simple question of nations, better or worse air forces,
or to be offended only because somebody has said "This aeroplane (of your air force) is not my favourite",
like in this thread sometimes, is absolutely idiotic!

Some photos I have seen here I'm knowing from the book "Flying legends", the best summary of first class warbird-photos, which I know. I only can recommend it!

WOW! Great pics guys.
The 109 looked pretty ungainly with it undercarriage down, but once up in the air where it belonged it looked plain deadly. I cant recall who said it, but i remember reading someone's quote that it reminded them of a shark.

Sorry, I've forgotten from which page that particular picture is taken but I might take a look into my Aerospace directory (which is enormous http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif ) and see if I can dig up more about that X-plane. From what I can remember this MarkV was equipped with a DB605A engine - interestingly it was still slower than the Bf109F4 and less climby, although it had more hp to show off with (but on the other hand the Spit is quite a bit heavier)

JG52Karaya-X- I'm not surprised it didnt perform as well, they were two VERY different airframes so sticking them together and getting it to fly at all is an achievement.
The fuel-injected Daimler was more advanced than the Merlin, i was interested to note you recalled reading that it didnt climb as well. You'd think otherwise with all the criticism Willi copped re the wing-loading of the 109.

Skalgrim- if we're going to get all ridiculous and say 'A person who lived over 100years ago in a country i also happen to inhabit, therefore that makes me smarter'.. i might point out that Otto Lilienthal's designs were fundamentally flawed.
He was however one of the first airmen to stall and get killed. The science of aeronautics owes him a lot because he showed us how NOT to do it.

Just a stupid comment of a person who doesn't really know what he is saying, but it's fine carry on. Otto Lilienthal set the fundamental stone for Wright-brothers to start their flying career.

Oops, stepped on someone's ego by questioning Lilienthals designs. The point i was making originally was directed at someone whose claim of superiority was based on the fact he inhabits the same country as someone who was a pioneer. I may have overstated my case re the shortcomings of Otto's designs- its hardly surprising his designs were flawed as the science of aeronautics was barely beginning (windtunnels hadnt been invented for instance). His work WAS significant of course.

He was talking about others wars, not the US.

But we got Veitnam from the French, and were hamstrung by politics, both inside and outside. The military did just fine, with both hands and one leg restricted from fighting.

The Korean War is a UN action, mostly manned by the US, is is niether won nor lost at the moment. I wouldn't expect you to actually know any of that though, since you brought it up in such an ignorant fashion. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

For once and always, America LOST the war in Vietnam. South-Vietnam was in the end overrun by the NVA and 'Vietcong'. And with help of America, the DICTATORSHIP in South Vietnam made thousands of casualties ( which is even higher then the North Vietnam's government) amongst it's own population.

I am still amazed how many Americans think that the war in Vietnam was rightful.
But hey, people in America just chew everything what they and hear see in the media...

I have watched a documentary about Vietnam where two different parties draw their conclusion.
The one thought that even if they would have fought longer they wouldn't have been able to defeat the Viet-Cong. The other one stated that an atomic warfare would have crushed them and he was convinced using this would be a good idea. Maybe there is good proportion of a divided country which hopefully thinks different about that discussion and I can only shake my head when I hear those simple minded people talk about using massdestruction weapons.

Just for the record, I never said the US 'won' Veitnam. The military arms won every major engagement, but because of politics, they weren't allowed to take the fight to the north like they could have. It was lost politically, and the NVA moved in as the US pulled out.

The US leaders screwed over both Veitnam and our own soldiers, and I'm not proud or happy about the needless deaths on both sides, especially the US fighting men and women, and the ill led South Veitnamese people.

I'll have a peach!

PraetorHonoris- great pics, they show the individual variations in the 109's quite well. Do you know what model 109 is depicted in the first picture?
I am interested in the canopy, i asked in an earlier thread about the canopy designs, was this one of the 'Galland Hood' models?

Functio
04-14-2005, 05:12 AM
Almost - the canopy is known an 'Erla Haube', whilst the pilot's head armour was sometimes known as 'Galland armour'. As for what variant of Bf109 is depicted in the first photo, it's hard to tell from so few details. One thing is that it lacks the square protrusion for a MW-50 tank behind the head arour, and so one could estimate that this is a Bf109 lacking such such equpment. It's either a G-6 or later variant.
