http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/10.gif .... say, I wonder if Sirrus & Achenar will remember WHO YOU ARE when they " see " you in the game http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif .... all of you certainly remember their dialogs with you back in MYST I .... both of them referred to the player as " my friend " when they constantly implored you to go looking for more red & blue pages. Naturally, if they remember the player in MYST IV -- they will probably try to kill you for betraying them!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

At the very least -- Atrus will likely remember " the player " very well --- because he did in all the other MYST games http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Generally speaking -- how do you think MYST IV characters will interact with you as the player??

That's a great question! As TT55 said, first we have to find out if we actually meet the brothers, or if we only see them in flashbacks. If we do, I'm sure they remember the person who betrayed them, but will they recognize the Stranger after 20 years? The Stranger is only human, so s/he could have aged quite a bit during that time. Also, the brothers only saw the Stranger through a fuzzy linking panel.

But wait, there's more! According to Cyan, the whole bit about talking to the brothers through the Books was just artistic license for the game. In reality, Books can't be used like video phones, which means that the brothers never actually saw or knew about the Stranger. So, if the developers ignore the artistic license of Myst -- as they did by using prison Ages instead of "trap Books" -- then S&A can't possibly recognize you or know who you are and what you did.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif Well, Saaveedro certainly " saw " the player in MYST III .... as did Atrus & Catherine -- and EVEN little baby Yeesha http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I would certainly think Sirrus & Achenar will be able to " see " you in the game ... remember, Achenar takes a huge swing at something in the MYST IV trailer .... perhaps your head ?? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

I really hope the player gets to interact with Sirrus & Achenar --- that would make the game much more fun !! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif Interacting with a madman and a conspirator. Exactly what I think of when I think fun.

What is this invasion?
For the fourth time, they come.
Two come to war;
Two run from war;
Two die;
Two live although they kill.
All of them;
Above whom are none
They believe.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif Ohh, I HARDLY think interacting with Sirrus & or Achenar will AUTOMATICALLY be detrimental to your health .... remember, Sirrus is the smooth operating " super genius " the MYST IV web site stated..... Achenar is not some bumbling brute who swings first and asks questions later .... they are two men who will alomost certainly engage you in a sophisticated mind game.....

To be sure, Sirrus and Achenar will DEFINITELY entertain you as the player.... but YOU KNOW ... ya gotta be careful !! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

So yeah, earthinvasion... I think interacting with Sirrus & Achenar SHOULD BE A REQUIREMENT OF THE GAME....We are OWED interaction with them!! We've waited ELEVEN years to interact with Sirrus & Achenar!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

I agree with that last statement!

Sirrus and Achenar did see us in Myst, but as someone pointed out, the true story is you can't see through book panels. However, if the story is different to Myst, then maybe they saw us another way?
I think they'll assume they saw us - it'll be far more interesting that way.
The story with regards to the trap books is stretched enough as it is, I don't think anyone will mind if they take a bit more "artistic license"...

Atrus definately recognises us - did you read his note (I cant remember if it was in the demo or on the website, but he definitely reads it aloud on the website) - possibly the game intro, is a message directly to you. "You are the only one I can confide in, my friend."

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/353.gif That just reminded me - does anyone remember the back of the Riven box. "I must act while there is still time. I must find someone... to send to Riven."
If Atrus wrote this after he met the stranger, then it'd be pretty obvious who he would send to Riven. If he wrote is BEFORE he met the stranger, then gee I dunno what Atrus was expecting... sounds a bit wierd if you're trapped in a little room with no hope of being rescued to write "I must find someone to send to Riven." http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Oh no - I was really hoping they didn't see me, since I didn't let them out! I haven't changed that much over the years, and you know, they seem to be the sort of people with good memories, particularly of the person who didn't do what they wanted!

Wow - in game, I'm not a little worried!

Maybe he forgot about you. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

My one question is why are we using an old-skool camera and a film projector? Unless I was seriously mis-informed, the first time you visit Myst was because you are a photographer and you found the book in a library and though "ohh cool picture" and touched it... and the same way is how you got back home at the end of Riven. So you shoud be a little more modern than that, unless you got the equipment from Atrus... ok never mind my post. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Isn't that you're walking near the cleft and find the book? As we've learned from Uru, the fissure leads back there.

I think the point of the fissure is that it leads "back to the place that you came from"... there is no Myst book at the Cleft (maybe there was at some stage).

Ie. You may be right about the cleft but we can't just say "The fissure leads back there" since it could lead anywhere. Its more complex than a simple link to the Cleft.

I think that the general idea for where "you" came from at the start of Myst was "wherever - somewhere which led to the fissure" and at the end of Riven you went back to the fissure, back to "wherever".

I remember Nirvelli's case in the Myst 1 strategy guide, the Brady version. But I don't think this guide is very reliable. I don't think you found the Myst book on a library shelf, and I don't think the general consensus is that "the stranger" is a photographer.

Which "old-skool" camera are you referring to, the one in Revelation?

Well, I've always taken that the fissure leads back the age inwhich it was origionally written in. Riven (Age 5) was written in D'ni, which is suspiciously close to the cleft, and, most likely, Relto was written in D'ni and/or the general D'ni area.

Well, I mean that the Riven fissure leads back to the cleft (Atrus' Myst book must have landed near the Cleft because that where the remains of Riven landed, as seen in Uru)

THAAAAANKs for the memories
Of pages blue and red
And all the lies you said
Of plots so deftly hatched
And machines so handy patched

THAAAAANKs for the memories
May you wallow in between
To us you seem obscene
Your father should have spanked
Your credit cards be yanked!

THAAAAANKs for the memories
If I had had my way
You wouldn't be here today
The people that you screwed
Would be something you both rued

You both should have paid so much

(Personally I envision all of their victims tearing them limb from limb, but I'm barbaric that way)

EMS: I thought you were not going to do the demo, that you didn't want to spoil the experience later this month. What happened? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
