Is there a Western Front campaign on the retail version of IL-2 1946 or would I have to download some user created files? I noticed that the game lets you play as the French, but that was only on the Red front. I'll be surprised if the French actually did fight in the Eastern Front, when they should have been working on liberating their on country.

You might want to research the name: Normandie-Niémen

Actually the French were helping liberate their country by fighting on the Eastern Front. Think about it.

No one answered my original question. Is there a Western campaign?

"As mentioned .. you'll be surprised what went down on the Eastern front... Spitfires too, if you look hard enough."

I heard about some of the crazy crap that happened on the Eastern Front. I read a very interesting book about it by Guy Sajer. Of course that is not the only East front book I read, it is just the best. Some of the stuff that went on over there is way beyond your wildest and worst fantasies. I defiantly recommend his book, their is even some air battles in their too. I was also aware of the allied Lend-Lease agreement, but I didn't know the British were involved. As for the French, I have heard of the Normandia-Niémen before I just
did not know they fought in the east.

If you install Lowengrin's DCG you will find a number of western campaigns. There are also western based static campaigns to download. Obviously these standard campaigns substitute other maps and sometimes aircraft in places where the real ones are not available in the game.

"close that book and don't open any more" Seriously it is actually a work of fiction with many inaccuracies. lots better more accurate stuff on the eastern Front out there.

For Western campaigns try DCG as others have said or try some of the excellent static campaigns out there.
