OK COLOUR ME STUPID. I have been mucking around the keyboard trying top familiarize myself where everthing is in the air plane. I'm thinkin' "hey, this doesn't look to bad, maybe I'll try a single player mission to start off with!" So I start the mission and in real time and in real life the prop would have RUSTED OFF before I got it goin'. So to put it simply "When you are sittin' on the runway in your craft ready to go, How do you start the plane up?" I think I saw dustballs collecting on the propellor while I rifled thru all the controls and found.....NOTHIN'!!!!

When I bought my copy, it not only came with a BOOK, but Ubi also included a nifty card with keys listed on it.

I'm sure that you'll find all this at the bottom of the box that your game came in.

______ _____
(, / ) /) /) , (, /
/---( _ // _(/ _ / __ ,""""]
+----/ ____)(_(_(/_(_(__(__(/____/__/ (__--------,' /---+
| / ( / ,' NR / |
|(_/ ..-""``"'-._ (_/ __,' 42 _/ |
+-.-"" "-..,____________/7,.--"" __]-----+

Of Course!!! The "I" key. That must stand for IDIOT which is what I feel like right now. I studied the card in the box and the in game controls to find the key that would start my plane. On my keyboard the "I" key looks identical to the upper case "\" key. So you would think that just tapping the "I" key would be so much easier than "shift + \" but NOOOOOO like everthing else the hard way seems easier. (maybe I'd better switch to decaf). ThanX again for the help.

One of those things I couldn't figure out either. I ended up using \ (or | http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) as my ingition...the habit has stuck.

In CONTROLS remap it to Ctrl+I that way you won't shut your engine off by mistake all the time punching around the keyboard.

Also, for BAIL, remap it to Ctrl+B. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ctrl+E is for the LOMAC set. hummpfh

Wish I'd read that before it happened. Didn't crash but got out the "glider log book" for a few brief seconds there 'till I got it "spooled up" agin'. Now the toggle engine is a 2stage command, and further to that....did the same thing with the bailout key. I don't think I have to tell ya' what happened there...(it wasn't pretty)...this is Major Catastrophe....SIGNING OFF>>>>

Or you could just get an X45 as soon as you see one on sale and map it to a button. My engine start is the red button in front on the stick..uhhh button bay. My bail out is the button under the little flip cover. I keep it doewn unless I want to bail.... would you believe i actually lifted it and pressed it by mistake one day..LMAO

X45!!! What is it & what does it look like? How much are they? Where might I get one? Maybe if they have a website you could post a link. I am currently using a "wingman rumblepad" in combination with a nostromo N50 speedpad. The wingman has all the crucial commands I need right at my fingertips while the N50 gets the keyboard off my desk and is CONSIDERABLY smaller. You can program over 50 keyboard commands into it. Has only 10 keyboard buttons, a "DPAD", & a mouse scroll wheel. Three button commands (CTRL + SHIFT + F7)...etc can be mapped for convenience into one keystroke. That has been my demise in a few specific instances but is is a learning process and this IL-2 stuff has been one of the funest ones I've had. It makes a big difference when you put a game in and it works right away like its supposed to....Not like CFS3..(GROAN!!!)...I will attempt to provide a link to the "BELKIN" site below so their speedpad products can be viewed. LOL!

This is one of the more refreshing posts I have read in a long time!

Major, if you like buttons, the X45 is for you! They sell at BestBuy, Circuit City. Go to Saitek.com to have a look at them.

Bearcat, that bailout snippet was way too funny. Personally, my engine start has been mapped to [mode 3]+[HOTAS HAT-Down]. The problem I have is [mode 1 or 2]+[HOTAS HAT-Down] is flaps down. I bet in the past month, I have shut my engine off at least 50 times while dogfighting!

...Picture... Bandit closing in fast.

...Thought... Lets Scissor fight with him (I'm confident in my scissor ability!)

...Step 1... Snap roll, pull back on stick, draw him closer, force him to slow down.

...Step 2... Drop flaps one stage to add lift, turn tighter, and drain more of his E.

...Step 3... Use my superior roll rate (Fw 190) to snap roll the opposite direction, and increase throttle to avoid stall.

...BUT... Was in [Mode 3]!!!

...So... shut off engine at stall speed, go into stall and crash before I can restart my engine. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I think I will remap my engine start key today... LOL
