View Full Version : Just how exactly is this going to work?

If you've been watching any of the trailers and dev diaries (which, if you're on these forums, I assume you have) then you'll have noticed that there's plenty of cutscene footage of Ezio's enemies, in particular Cesare Borgia - particularly in the aptly named Cesare Trailer.

But how are we going to see these in the game? Remember, we are watching Ezio's actions through the genetic memory of Desmond. As such, the narrative cannot jump to events that Ezio did not witness. So we have four options:

1) These cutscenes are just trailer-fodder - in which case why go to the trouble of making them? Why not use actual in-game cutscenes? Plus, many of them look like they serve an in-game plot purpose.

2) Ezio watched all of these events. That is A LOT of chances to kill Cesare wasted. Of course, you must remember that Ezio is the man who eavesdropped on a group of 5 templars (whom he later killed) without knifing any of them at the time, resulting in the death of Venezia's doge, so I guess he might just slip up again.

3) Rebecca (she of the Animus 2.0) has integrated memories uploaded from other people's DNA and inserted them chronogically into the Animus's memory, to help Desmond get some context. Or subject 16 did it.

4) Ubi temporarily forgot about the whole genetic memory concept.

So... which do you think it is? I hope it's number 3.

it's gonna be #2. But remember, it's espionage. You don't kill the first chance you get. That's a huge part of the game. To take time and plan your attack. Find their weakness and after lots of planning strike fast and escape before anyone even notices.

If you look at this in a realistic way, just killing Cesare early leaves two problems. First, you won't know his plans, his employees or other conspirators (can't think of the right word), and that means that any plans he has will be carried out regardless of whether he's alive or dead. Second, when Cesare is in a large group (especially papal guards), even Ezio would have trouble on the approach and the escape. So, Ezio may have been present, but had reasons not to kill him.
However, I expect a few select cutscenes in the trailer were just for the trailer, like when Cesare is looking over Rome with about five papal guards behind him, and the camera zooms out revealing Ezio watching him (at the end of the trailer).

I also doubt Ubisoft have forgotten that Ezio must have witnessed it for us to see it.

Exactly. They justify EVERYTHING in the universe.

Sometimes lopping off the head of the hydra only allows 2 more to grow in it's place..

If you kill the tyrant only to allow a worse tyrant in, did you really help the situation? The point is to make the best decisions and only kill out of necessity. Hence he doesn't kill immediately or without thinking his actions through.

Technically, in the Cesare trailer, Ezio was standing like right behind the man. They just didn't show us Ezio all the tim, like those are the few moments where it get all first person on us.

-a combination of one slightly
-most likely, cause he needed to plan and Dante was being a bodygaurd
-Would be awkward since the people who would have such memories would either be on their side and with them right then and there. I know you can save ike a file of a session, but where would she get such a session from?

Honestly, even if it's an Ubisoft slip up, in this case I honestly don't care. Cesare is such a good villian to me, with more personality than Al Mualim, Robert De Sabe, or Rodrigo Borgia ever had, I want him to have a LOT of personal screen time.

In AC2 Minerva left a message to Desomnd who was not even born at the time. How do you explain that?

I think that Philadelphia incident, which is mentioned in the game, probably has something with it. One of Pieces of Eden must give user the ability to manipulate time and space.

I think this needs to be taken with the tinyest pinch of salt to allow for the concept to work at it's best... if we were being pedantic we would need to be a fly that follows Ezio/ Altair for the many years that the games span so that we could look over his shoulder. Therefore as it is 3rd person and not 1st person the occasional camera work to frame the story is forgiven in my eyes. Saying that... I can't think of any instances where Ezio/ Altair have not been far away from the group/ person in question so can only assume that the same is true on this outing.

Have you all forgotten AC 2's trailers? Let me remind you: "There are three moments in a mans life that he never forgets: his first kiss; his first duel; and the moment when he first discovers his purpose in life."

I think that certain parts are simple cannon fodder (the voice-overs, the scenes of Cesare looking over Rome, etc) while others are actually part of the game(... I TAKE!)

It's a good line by Cesare. I wish that they released a skin DLC with a bunch of single player skins. I would want to have the skins of Cesare, La Volpe, Giovanni Auditore, Federico Auditore, and maybe one more http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I also love it, kind of sounds like something someone high in the mafia would say... maybe Ezio could spare him and have him join the theater! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif I'd go see him. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

That was an awesome line. Cesare is, like, my role model now (if you forget the incest, killing his bro, getting exiled to Spain, then getting killed by mauling, being thrown out into a forest naked, and having your stuff looted http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif ) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
