The only thing that kept my from buying red orchestra all this while is if RO can run smoothly on my laptop or not.

Now I can answer this question once and for all.

Can anyone provide the default keyboard commands for RO? Just want to see if things such as "lean", "prone", etc. are included... Thanks!

Spyware...spyware with Steam? I don't think so - never had a problem myself.

It's worth it, I've never had a match on RO:Ost that I didn't feel immersed in... Everything is surreal.

Unfortunately, I can't see why people like this game. First the Unreal 2.0/3.0 engine sucks. It's enefficient. It can do what the Quake 3 engine can do, and use 3 times as much GPU/CPU in the process.

Second, I can only recommend this game to people who want to feel like they're a robot with failing hydrolics and several hundred pounds of led weights tied to your waist.

Sorry, it needs "smoothed out", that's all. Oh, and a different engine. And soldiers who don't have glass leg bones.

I do love the realism, though. The enefficiency of the game will keep me from ever reinstalling it though. And the general crappiness of the entire product.

Well i tried the game and it's fun for sure but.. but... it's more like a game from the last generation 2003/4 like COD (1) not a new generation game.
It's absolete but fun.

First, unless you PC is ancient, you shouldn't have any trouble at all with frame issues. In that case you just need to upgrade. UE2 has always run just as well as Q3 for me. Try upgrading your drivers.

Second, you've never even used a Unreal 3 engine game, so how would you know.

If you can get this (http://www.beyondunreal.com/image.php?src=main/ut2007/hr/ut2007_27.jpg)
to run on modern hardware, I'd say that pretty efficient.

An optimized and tweaked installation of XP, I keep my drivers current.

"Just upgrade" isn't an option for many.

There is such a magnitude of things I don't enjoy about the game that I listed only the 2 most important. Performance and the weak legged soldiers. Also, the guns sway and swing around like a Javelin. I happen to own a MN91/30, and I it sure doesn't weigh as much as the game portrays. The K98 is a karbine/carbine, I've seen and held them in real life, if WWII soldiers swayed their rifles around like they do in the game, the Wehrmacht would've ran out of ammo trying to shoot the distant pixels on the horizon.

Their insistance that Zoom is unrealistic is absolutely hilarious. I could go on and on.

Regarding zoom, before I have to read another "T3h solders weren't cyb0rgz!!" reply, I will state the following:

The game fits 90 degrees of ingame view in a 60 degree real life area (17" screen at 1 1/2 feet from viewer). This causes the ingame world to appear smaller than it should naturally, hence why every other game, realistic and not, have Zoom.

Infact, IL2 has zoom. Even on full real. I wonder why? Hmmm....! What a puzzle.

i played it abit, does seem abit clunky. fairly empersive tho cos i cant tell much of whats going on http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

and yeah, with no zoom the viable range for shooting is really small.

Downloaded it and gave it a whirl last night (offline). Seems good. Certainly better than DoD anyhow. I might give it a spin online tonight. Hopefully there aren't too many pinheads http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif.

Shooting is difficult at first. Take the Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 as your first rifle and concentrate. If you take a few seconds to make a shot, fine. It's very tough to get used to, but also very rewarding when you make a shot.

Keep in mind that most of the players that are on the servers now are noobs.
