Hello again, gang...

I have to admit, I'm getting confused at all the different flight combat sims coming out (or already out?), and I was wondering if someone could briefly outline/clarify them to me.

Firstly, what is the official name of Oleg's upcoming Battle Of Britain? I'm confusing it with the other one... and on top of that, does the OTHER one now have a sequel?

Secondly, I just saw a site for Blazing Angels... For a brief second, I thought that was Oleg's BoB sim! What's that one all about, and what is the general feeling about it (...certainly LOOKS nice!).

Any other combat sims worthy of note coming up?

Thanks!

A recent cited working title for Maddox's Battle of Britain is: "Storm of War: The Battle of Britain." Before that I think it was being called "Battle Of Britain: The Cliffs of Dover" or something like that. I think it is safe to say that until an official development update is released by 1C:MG with a definate project title, any rumored title we're currently hearing is subject to change ...

You've probably been hearing a lot about Shockwave's "Battle of Britain II: Wings of Victory." You ask if it has a sequel; in reality it is a revision of "Rowan's Battle of Britain" from around 2000 or so. Rowan's version was a classic and Shockwave updated it for contemporary computers. Shockwave's current project is a revamping of Microprose's "B-17II: The Mighty Eighth."

The topic of The Battle of Britain has always been fertile ground for air combat sims. I think it was LucasArts that put out a version in the mid 1990s called "Their Finest Hour." There was a budget title a few years ago based on the Warbirds engine called "Battle of Britain" and it was loosely endorsed by the History Channel. And after CFS-3 came out there was an immediate "Battle of Britain" third-party addon released for it.

You mentioned "Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII" which is being advertised at the Ubi Soft main site. My understanding of it is that it is an X-Box only game. I also believe that the IL-2 engine was licensed out to the Blazing Angels developers, but was heavily modified to meet the Blazing Angels team's purpose. Blazing Angels looks like it will be a fun little arcade game. The screenshots showing London look amazing.

Speaking of flight sim projects that utilize the IL-2 engine, there is a WWI sim in development. More information here (http://www.simhq.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=144;t=001669).

There's a planned WWI sim in the pipeline, being developed with the help of the Maddox team; and based on the game engine we have in this sim.

I think one could realisticly expect Shockwave to come out with a completely new flight sim, developed intirely in-house, in the not-too-distant future. I say that because they seem to be gaining a lot of experience repairing, revamping, and otherwise enhancing other people's sims. It's only a matter of time before they decide it's time to move beyond that, and build their own baby.

Based on what they've put out so far, I must say that I'm excited about that prospect - even if it is purely speculative. Heck, they even managed to make CFS3 resonably enjoyable.

Oleg series.

IL-2 Sturmovic
Forgotten Battles
Pacific Fighters All three are being combined on a single DVD.

More aircraft and maps may come out in paid(and free) add-ons.

A third party World War 1 sim based on the Oleg game engine may come out this fall.

Storm of War "Battle of Britain" by Oleg

Based on an intirely new engine....... is the start of a new series incompassing second world war air combat. The Mediterraen Theater, Easter Front, Western Front, and Pacific Front to follow if sales make it worth while. Storm of War "Battle of Britain" may see the light of day at the end of the year or sets of two week intervals thereafter. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Rowan's Battle of Britain...upgraded by Shockwave to Battle of Britain WOV...is out and improving through a series of patches.

Shockwave is also proposing to upgrade Microprose's B17 11 but that has become very quite lately and looks to be slipping away.

Microsoft's CFS3 has also been upgraded by Shockwave, and a third party has made an interesting World War 1 add-on called "Over Flanders Fields" , based on the CFS3 engine.

I have or will have most and recommend them all if you have the means and time.

If you want the best....buy Olegs Il-2 series on the DVD....and have a great time until Olegs new series starting with the Storm of War "Battle of Britain" comes out.

Also the third party WW1 add-on based on the IL-2 series engine is looking very good.

The Sim world is better than ever if you ask me.
We are a small community as a whole. We should not treat each other as rivals.

Now for the new DVD being offer . Whats new in it that will induce me to buy it. I have two copies of every CD in this game. In order for me to buy this new DVD format. Will have to include new maps and plane like Burma and Norway plus new Pacific planes or will it include same items we already have. Dose anyone know.

Your right Miami...I did enjoy CFS2 for a year or two...and had great hopes for CFS3...which was a great disappointment for me.

I think UBI missed the boat on the DVD. The DVD needed something extra to entice all the people who already own a copy or two of each part of the series. Unfortunately I don't think the convenience of a single DVD will sell very well with most of us. If they had saved the JU88 and added the PE2 for this DVD release, it would do better.

Anyway...what do I know...its all good if it brings more newcomers to the series.

Chivas CFS2 is still a great Sim believe me. After you learn to upgrade it you will learn how good this Sim is as well. Pacific Fighter is better in many aspects but not in all. Between them I"m having a great time. Yes CFS3 was a great disapointment but it to has been improved through its community. The only thing I do not like about CFS3 is that the only the Option to fly in is in the European Theater. You cannot fly in the Pacific and Asia Theater. That makes it less than a complete World war two Sim in my view.

Thats what I like most about Pacific Fighter and Combat flight Simulator Flight Simulator 2.

The diversity in maps and plane is simply incredible.

I for one to like fly for every Airforce that participated in World war two. That only extends your experience and fun.

Now we can talk and discuss diferrent planes and their capabilities and not just talk about a few planes.

This has expanded our collective knowledge about World war two Aviation History.

Thank you for bringing up all the new development going on for our enjoyment.

I think and believe that this Hobby is getting better everyday.

We must remember that this Hobby is small and we must stick together and not biker to much about who has the better Sim.

Lets enjoy the new developments and hope more will come our way.

Please if your new participate and be counted by posting and giving and asking questions or simply mention what you like about this Hobby.

Join as many forums as you like and enjoy it all, but always respect other so that others will respect you as well.
