View Full Version : Half-life 2 is...(maybe)

RUMOR #1: Half-Life 2 is gold. Really. No foolin'. Honest.

Source: If we told you, we'd have to kill you.

The official story: Both VU Games and Valve declined comment.

What we heard: Ever since the release candidate for Half-Life 2 was submitted to VU Games in mid-September, a piņata has hung in the lobby of Valve's headquarters. The plan: to bust the sucker open when the game achieved gold status. Earlier today, GameSpot learned from an informed sourced that "the piņata has been broken" and the game has gone gold. Further evidence of the game's completion was a press release issued this afternoon touting the first review of "the entire game." Though nothing official has been announced yet, it appears the fat lady is at last clearing her throat.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus.

quote:
Now here's the fly in the ointment. Even if HL2 HAS gone gold, Valve and Vivendi Universal are still embroiled in this lawsuit as reported right here. This lawsuit will likely delay any release of the game until all is settled, and our sources indicate that that could be after the end of the year. And as you further know from staying tuned to GameSHOUT Radio, Valve will be unable to release HL2 by Steam until the official VUG release date, though those who have preloaded it will be able to play right away. Gold or not, we don't expect this mess to be untangled anytime soon, but stay tuned right here for all of the latest news!

That is from www.halflifesource.com (http://www.halflifesource.com) So does that mean even if Half Life 2 goes GOLD, it still has a chance of not being released until next year?

10-17-2004, 03:39 PM
Not exactly. It would be smart for VU to delay the game in order to make Valve back off from some of their legal demands, however it would also be a major blow to VU to delay the game because they desperately need the profit that would be generated by Half-Life 2.

10-17-2004, 03:45 PM
True. So all mighty VPC, Lord of the PC, do you think it will be released next month?

10-17-2004, 04:25 PM
Ya, I do.

10-17-2004, 04:28 PM
I sure hope you are right! Most of the time you are, so don't fail me now!!!

Well for me the question is when will the XBOX version be out.
Anyone have info on that?http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

it will come out in roughly the same amount of time it will take Halo 2 to come out for the PC.
