I have a nvidia 5700. I will be upgrading my motherboard and proc. to AMD 64.
I was gonig to get the 6800 GT but so much time has passed since I've decided to upgrade, now I'm thinking about the 7800 GT. The 7800 GTX is out of my price range.
Any feed back on how your cards run FB+AEP+PF.
The reviews I see are all on other games that I don't play and I'm only concerned about IL2 and spending the least amount of money as possible without sacrificing speed and graphics to much.
Thanks

Tom's Hardware has some benchmarks from a wide variety of cards. The tests include comparing FPS running the Beaufighter Torp demo (in 3.04 instead of 4.01 or 4.02, but it's still a good test).
It's a little older test, so it doesn't include the 7800 series. However, unless you plan on running at 160x1200 with 4x or better AA/AF, you probably won't see much difference.

They also have a benchmarking article on the 7800 series, but it doesn't include the PF test.

I love my 6800GT...FB+AEP+PF runs smooth as silk on my rig. I average 36 FPS in the "Kamikaze2" track and 37 FPS in the "Black Death" track with the following settings:

Game settings:

Visibility Distance = High
Objects Lighting = High
Objects Detail = Excellent
Landscape Lighting = Excellent
Landscape Detail = Perfect
Clouds Detail = Detailed Clouds

Conf.ini settings:

Water = 1
Forest = 1
Effects = 1
3dgunners = 1
Typeclouds = 1

6800 settings:

AA = 4x
AF = 4x
VS = ON
Image = Quality
Force Mipmaps = Trilinear
Conformant Texture Clamp = ON
Trilinear Optimization = ON
Anisotropic Mip Filter Optimization = ON
Anisotropic Sample Optimization = ON
Triple Buffering = ON
Negative LOD Bias = Clamp

In short, if you can afford the 6800GT, you won't be disappointed!

NOTE: I flew with Water = 3 for the longest time. Then, after reading through several forum posts on the subject, I decided to try Water = 1 for the FPS boost. IMHO, the visual difference between Water = 3 and Water = 1 is minimal...but the FPS boost is significant. Same thing with Forest = 3 vs. Forest = 1.

Hey m8. If you are looking at an X800XL for that price, you should go with an X850Pro. I believe Newegg has a similar price on those. And I know there are several reputable eBay stores that are selling the X850Pro at that price. I have purchased three for my m8s from these stores, each was under $200 shipped. At stock speeds, the X850Pro out performs the X800XL from what I have seen. I have a squadm8 using an X800XL and we just finished flying a few missions. While ingame, we were communicating our fr's to each other and this X850Pro, (I am testing/flashing before shipping to a friend), was so much better. And that is before I flash it to an XT PE.

So if your are thinking ATI in that price range, the X850Pro is the way to go.

Well for the time i got an x700pro 256 for 99 bucks and i must say it really hums. I was used to 20 fps with dips to single digit in smoke on my fx5200 but now i have 70+ in smoke! time to kick up the settings and see what she'll do! Iwas really looking for the best card without additional power needed and the 800's i think are the highest you can go.

Happy....for now!
