View Full Version : HELP!! graphical corruption for openGL water

When I play the game the reflections on the water are all screwed, they have coloured pixels everywhere and seem to have such a low res that it looks awful!!! (the suns reflection looks like a big white block with huge pixels making up all reflections).
I have a AMD FX-55, 1024mb memory
and 2 Asus 6800Ultras SLI driver version 71.84. I've got all the settings maxed out and have water on 3. The only way to fix it is to switch to directX mode wich disables all the fancy renders (which sucks). Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks!!

I don't use SLI myself so I'm only speculating here, but it could be one of a few things...

1. What version of the game are you running? Are you patched up to 3.04? If you are, did you just install 3.03 then 3.04, or did you try to install all the patches (3.01, 3.02, 3.03, 3.04)? (Only 3.03 and 3.04 are necessary, if you try and install these over the earlier 3.02 'beta' patches, it can corrupt your installation causing all sorts of errors). If you're not patched at all: then I'd say your SLI profile isn't meshing with the game at all (NVidia's SLI profile in the latest firmware only came out post 3.04).

2.Do you have Anti-aliasing and Antistropic Filtering on? I haven't run with water=3, but when I was experimenting with AA/AF on my 5700 card, put AA on and ran at 1024*768 resolution, I had blocky textures and corruptions everywhere. Very similar to what you describe. When I ran in the next resolution up, there was nary a problem in the world. (of course my card couldn't handle the next one up with AA on, so AA had to go: but you should have no troubles). So if you're running in 1024*768 I suggest you bump it up a notch.

3. Did you get that NVidia firmware while it was a solid release or when it was a beta: if solid release did you have a beta previously? The Pacific Fighters SLI profile was only implemented properly once 71. became a solid release. And this is a dumb question, but you are using the PF SLI profile aren't you? If you aren't that's your problem right there.

Hi Flanker15,

There is a nVidia Beta driver 76.41 that fixes this but than you could run in to al kinds of other trouble like your system crashing al the time. For now just stick with the 71.84 and Excellent mode I run the game in Excellent mode to and use 1600x1200x32 4xAA 8xAF and the game look fabulous.
There is by the way an even newer driver 76.44 from which no one really seems to know if it is WHQL or Beta but again Perfect mode is broken in this driver.
We now know for sure it is a nVidia driver bug so hold on and wait for nVidia to FIX it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
