Greetings all.

This was posted by Starshoi in SimHQ:

It was all done in just one-two days, so if you have time please check the following:

1. If you place in conf.ini a line MissionDistance=0 (or, in fact, anything else), you will fly short, ahistorical versions of Pearl Harbor and Midway (if you like it, I'll make the same for Coral Sea, Santa Crus and Marianas)

2. B-29s are not escorted by Navy fighters anymore (check in IJA campaign)

3. Avengers do not cary rockets in antiship missions. If they still attack ships with MG, please inform me, may be it has to be resolved with Oleg.

4. UseParachutes in conf.ini allows Japanese to use chutes since war start.

5. Objects (sandbags, etc) are present again in PF missions."

Download it, test and send your observations to Starshoi.

Cheers!

latest beta, probably another soon to follow. This one is mainly revised planesets. All usual warnings regarding betas apply.

as predicted:

http://il2center.com/DGen3130.rar

Main issue we are testing now is historically correct planeset. If you run into problem when generating a mission (i.e. Dgen fails to generate), immediately exit and look for the Dgen error log file in your main FB/PF folder. Send the text in this file along with an explanation of the problem to Starshoy (as instructed in readme) at:

dgen at rogers.com

Also, help is needed with historical frequencies (i.e. numbers present) for aircraft in the planesets in all campaigns after Tarawa.

Usual beta warnings apply. Back up files, record details of problems, don't use if you are a tree-swinging, poo-flinging monkey, etc.

I'll say it here 'cause it'll detract from the good work if I post over at simhq.

Thanks to all who are assisting Vadim with this one.

Great stuff!

www.il2center.com/DGen3131.rar (http://www.il2center.com/DGen3131.rar)

1. Fixes a problem with Santa Cruz campaign
2. Fixes a problem with air kills not reported in the debrief in FB campaigns/
3. Corrects promotion rate (see below)

"Try with today's exe, it will be even slower. I found that I only scaled down air kills influence (the most important factor), but not sorties and ground kills. Even with this exe you'll have to fly at least another 30 sorties to get second promotion.

Score is calculated as (3*Air Kills + Sorties + 1/3 * Ground Kills)*promotion rate.

You need following numbers for promotions to the next rank:

15,50,100,200,300,400"

Good stuff, but one thing Starshoy said he would do which he still hasn`t yet done. DEMOTIONS!

Say you shoot down 3 or more friendly aircraft accidentally (or on purpose), there is NO comeback. There should at least be some punishment. It even says in the FB manual you could suffer demotions and stuff.

I have mentioned this before but Starshoy`s absence of a reason for not doing this really stands out. I remember when he posted and said he would do this and we thanked him in advance.

(Also, a Russian Campaign where you can fly as an I16 pilot on the wing of a TB3 Sveno would be good too. I`ve always wanted to do this on an `every now and then` mission that could sometimes happen in an I16 Campaign. Again, I put this in ages ago, no response). Maybe it`s a language translation thing? I can provide details on the Sveno/I16/TB3 Campaign idea if you want..

Sorry, if I`m spoiling the Atmos, but it`s been quite a long running issue which I`ve kept VERY patient on, hoping for a result.

Is there a thread that explains the DB files and what they do? For instance, the following:

[Planes]
3 PBN1
10 B_17D
2 B_17E
3 P_40SUKAISVOLOCHB
12 SBD3
135 D3A1
144 B5N2
108 A6M2_21
[Skill]

Does the above control the # of planes in a campaign? How? Can different types be inserted on a line?

Wingstrut_1, IIRC the number in front of the aircraft designator is the frequency per 300 aircraft that that particular aircraft will be inserted into missions by DGen. Only one aircraft per line should be placed below [Planes], and the correct in-game designator should be used (_ instead of -, odd suffixes for the early P-40's, etc.)

AKD and Starshoy, thanks for the continued effort to tune DGen for historical accuracy (and just to include all the new aircraft... several had gone missing in the out-of-the-package PF.)

Nimits has done much as well. Just as a note, the plane numbers for the PF campaign files that have been changed so far are just pulled from the historical numbers present, however they are not used as raw numbers, but in determining frequency versus other aircraft of the same class.

Some of the later campaigns will probably not use the actual numbers (especially for the Japanese side) but probable frequencies, if myself or anyone else can get around to doing them.

Will send an E-Mail to Starshoy about this, but in case he's looking here more frequently than into his mail box:
There's a serious problem in all Beta versions since 3.125 I think - skin managment isn't working anymore. This is true for PF as well as for AEP!! In PF all skins defined in the 'plane' section of the *.db file are simply ignored. In AEP mission scripts P-51s get P-47 skins and so on. Please check ...

Works fine for me. Using 3131. The betas overwrite some of the .DB files, so you have to go back in and reassign your custom skins.

1. What should the code line read to attach a skin to a plane in a DB file?

2. Is there a website that has some info on DB files and modding the game?

A.K.Davis
12-13-2004, 07:51 AM
1. place the exact file name of the custom skin next to desired aircraft in the campaign .DB file you wish to edit. e.g.:

[planes]
10 F4U1D xxxxxxxxxxxx.bmp

place the $ character at the beginning of the file name if you do not wish the game to apply markings:

[planes]
10 F4U1D $xxxxxxxxxxxx.bmp

2. No, troll around the SimHQ forums.

Thank You, AKD,
meantime I think that those errors are somehow memory related, because in most (not all) cases it's working again. Only one out of about five missions will be affected at moment (showing default skins for A6M5a for example). So it's probably no problem of DGen.
Thanks again for checking and response ...

Here is latest. Report problems to dgen at rogers.com, not here only.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> www.il2center.com/DGen3132.rar (http://www.il2center.com/DGen3132.rar)

I added USN fighter and RN campaigns against Japan.
They seem to work but is not very thoroughly checked. Please check these two and also USAAF campaign in Japan.

I used US operational briefings for Brits, please check that they are applicable in French and German localisation. (I slightly modified English version). <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

or, for those who prefers zip
http://www.il2center.com/DGen3134.zip

Fixes the following:

USN/RN planes should not have airstart in carrier based campaign vs Japan anymore.

Even on high intensity you should not have more than 4 Rufe (or they will collie on improvised takeoff places)

Promotion rate is now displayed in DGen.log, and even values as 0.0000005 will too (although not different from 0 - with may be 300 missions max it does not make sense to set it any lower that 0.01) <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

AK,

The 3.03 patch has the 3134 version of DGEN included I think. Please verify.

I have a few questions here b4 emailing em pls answer:

1) The crash bugs in the New Guinea map is FAR from being corrected, I still see MANY planes die into that big volcano - like mountain near the front line, am I the only one? (I dont think so)

2) I NEVER EVER met a A6M2n ruffe in ANY of my PF campaigns, either Japenese career or american, that goes as well for the PBYN or the H8K1...why?? they are included in the .db files...

3) pls make the A6M3 available for FLYABLE in IJA. right now it makes the Dgen crashes when you select it for a battle

4) the choice of planes available as FLYABLE in campaigns does not always fit the array of AI plane you will meet in the same battle...example: you can fly the Ki-43I in Tawara but its NOT included as AI plane in the db file...why??

thx in advance, and keep up the good work!

A suggestion,

Change the oops dat file for flights to lower the number of aircraft. For instance, I have lowered the bombing aircraft and some of the escort numbers. If I have 3 flights of bombers I have them only set at 2 planes each. Or I will do 2 flights at 3 planes each. This has really improved frame rates. I have also added 1R flight to bomber flights which adds one recon plane.

Now for a question. Does anyone know all the code for the oops file in terms of the plane types? B, Bn, Br, Y, F, etc..???? If so let me know.

Wingstrut_1

Also I suggest adding a P-400 Guadalcanal campaign.

Another question, I have not seen any moving japanese ships in Guadalcanal after the invasion Guadal2 campaign. Anyone know how to add them? I had a flight of B17's drop bombs into an empty ocean on a convoy attack. Very dissapointing.
