Problem with Top Speed in Vought F4U-1C Corsair Aircraft. I have a Pen4 CPU 300GHz 3.06 GHz.2.00 GB of Ram ~ Running Wind XP Pack 2

Have a Thrustamaster Hotas Cougar Joystick ~ Running Trackir Pro Vector Expansion Viewing Head Product. I can not get any speed ~ I'm lucky if I can get 250 mph out of her ~ Stall like crazy. I know it not any of above products

It seems like every patch that comes out slows up even more.

I am Squad Commander ~ The GRIM REAPER ~ I've been hosting for three yrs now ~ make my own Object Maps ~ Aircrafts Skins ~ BUT can not find out why speed so slow???

Thx in advance for any help given. ~ The Grim Reaper Is Pursuing U ~ Die Well ~ I'll Send Flowers ` Always Check UR Six.

Keep stupidity to a reasonable minimum.

you might be confusing IAS with TAS http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I assume this it's top speed at altitude.

What is the best speed altitude for this plane?

At sealevel I could reach around 357 mph TAS, 100% fuel with default loadout. (Cannon ammo only)

Are you using the correct supercharger settings?

the Corsair has a three-stage manually controlled supercharger. Use stage one from sea level to 8500ft, then stage two up to 26,900, and above that, stage three.

also try different RPM settings, cowl flap arrangements, flaps raised, yadda yadda yadda.

just got back from Pax River, testing that hot new Corsair,(OK, It was the Okinawa map in the quick mission builder). My test revealed that at 20,000 ft, Throttle at 110%, Mixture at 100%, RPM at 100%, 25% Fuel, and no ammo, I could sustain 300mph indicated airspeed.

According to my airspeed conversion utility, that is a true airspeed of 420mph.

The book ( The American Fighter, Enzo Angellucci, Orion Books, 1985) I have doesn't have stats for the F4U-1C, but it does have them for both the -1A and the -1D:

F4U-1A maximum speed @ 19,900: 417mph
F4U-1D maximum speed @ 20,000: 425mph

From what I can tell, 1c got the -1C just right!

Pffft. Facts. You can prove almost anything remotely true with those things

Here we go again.....will somebody please tell this guy how (proper) speed testing is done; I will bet my left nut that he hasn't a clue about it OR the difference between IAS and TAS. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Thx All Wing Men ~ Was not using any supercharger settings.

Now set Supercharger ~ See it has the three-stage manually controlled supercharger. Using stage one for sea level to 8500ft, At 1,000 ft with no flaps ~ just ammo ~ always fly with only 25% fuel ~ Got it up around 340 mph. That helped alot ~ Thx Again All ~ But Don't forget ~ The GRIM REAPER Is Always Pursuing U ~ I'll Be Waiting for U To Make A Mistake <~> Die Well ~ I'll Send Flowers.

Ahhh. I see your problem. You're using the German version of PF. Germans don't know how to use mph. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

I think you are right, I bet he doesn't know that ALL speed tests have to be done in a certain map with proper fuel/ammo/cem settings, as there is NO WAY you can get the rated top speed from the Pacific maps(as it should be). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

The F4u-1C Shouldn't be any faster than the -1A, they used the same engine didn't they?
