You always discover something new in IL-2... Today I shot down a Me-363 and the pilot and his gunmen had to bail out. Usually when you press Ctrl F2 you will see the bailed out pilots with their opened parachutes. But today I noticed that even they could be badly injured or dead or didn't have time to open their parachutes.
Am I the only one who noticed this or is it something every simmer already knows except me???

I've seen this a couple of times.

I recall last year I was practicing attacking bombers head-on in the QMB, and I hit one in the cockpit, and everyone tumbled out, dead. I didn't notice it until I replayed the track later.

I've got a better one...

Be careful when bailing out of a Me-110 with a live AI gunner and bandits in range b/c your tail gunner CAN KILL YOU as you go over the side.

You can be killed in the chute by flak, a tank round, enemy AC, your tail gunner, your wingman, your exploding plane, someone else's exploding plane, and probably more... you can get stuck in the pit if the spin is too strong...

You can also get stuck in the pit for too many Gs and too high of a speed. I think anything over 500Kph is too fast, you can't get out.

Once in a blue moon I'll shoot the parachutes and watch them fall to their death. Hey its war, no mercy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

By the way, are you using somekind of water mod/skin? My landscape setting is on excellent and it doesn't look that good.

it's usually quite amusing to watch the pilot if a plane expolodes very quickly after bail out.

No, I don't use any water mods. It depends on your videocard and settings. I used to have a NVidia 6200 something and the water looked like a flat metal plate. With my new card and water = 4 my water looks like...water. I dunno know about your card but I suggest to go to your conf.ini file and change watersettings.

The best setting is "perfect" not excellent. If you do not have "perfect" as an option make sure you running in opengl.

Once you choose perfect, there are further options in the conf text file that determine exactly how the water and trees look. Most people just download IL2 Stab and use that to configure the settings.

Parachuters ways of dieing are well know here. Landing on a building is another way of broken legs death.

Actually I did try to install it awhile back but couldn't. I unzipped the Stab download and double click the setup.exe and nothing happens whatsoever. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Shoot down a Pe-8 with one of those 5,000 kg bombs on it. If the plane is plummeting down to earth while the crew is bailing out, then they are more or less headed toward where the bomb they just dropped is falling to. If the bailed out crew is anywhere within a couple thousand meters of that huge explosion, they will all get killed by the shock wave. That bomb has an incredible blast radius. Does anyone know how large for sure?

Shame the sim doesn't feature the Lanc with a 22,000 lb Grand Slam as a load out option http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
