If so I have a little Japanese anime about WW2 and it's a real beauty, it's a WW2 double stories VHS package known as the Cockpit.

First story is about a Luftwaffe pilot getting shot down and branded a coward by his comrades, his commander offers him a chance to clear his name by doing a top secret run with a TA-152H1 as his plane.

2nd story is about a Japanese Kamikaze pilot whose squadron is entirely shot down and he ends up being one of the sole survivors, he makes it back home alive but he is sent back to do his Kamikaze run, if you want an idea on how a WW2 Japanese Kamikaze pilot was thinking this might give you something. it had a lot to do with the MXY-7 Ohka human bomb.

These are no kids stuff since there is blood in there first of all and they ain't afraid of showing people dying in there, I'll warn you because this might shock some of you DO NOT SHOW THIS TO YOUR KIDS unless you really trust them.

If you plan on checking it out I hope you'll enjoy ithttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

hmm. Worth a shot, maybe.

Reccomendations from my corner would have to be:
Jin-Roh - alternate post war Japan, had the Nazi's won. Not really an action, more of a drama/philosophy type thing.

Grave of the Fireflies - Firebombing of Japan, death of two kids. Very sad.

So how do we get it?

There are tons of ways of getting this one, btw the author was Leiji Matsumoto who designed Captain Harlock, but I heard of Graves of the Fireflies, it's something I should try and get my hands on but strangely have overlooked.

Graves of the Fireflies really deserves that I check it out, it's first class in the anime world.

try this site, maybe you might find something.

"Grave of the fireflies" broke my heart. Everyone should watch it.

I love the work of H. Miyazaki (best director/animator)

"Porco Rosso" is good fun, and has good plane secuencies. Worth watching for a laugh too. (same director)

Also, "Nausicaa od the Valley of Wind" (same director, based on the future world) has some wicked "planes" (even taking inspiration from Me-323). The story is good, although the comic book is far better, a truly master piece.

You guys might not believe me, but it's true anyway.

After seeing the movie "Graves of the fireflies", i sold my AthlonXP + EPoX nForce2 + 512 DDR Ram console which was built with the sole purpose of playing FB. Now I am using my a bit slow but stable DELL, the FPS is not that to my satisfactory but, I feel better about myself this way.

A: Your just saying this to start a flamewar
B: There are any different types of Anime, some weird, some not.
C: Apparently you are the judge of what's good, and what's not.
D: If ya don't like Anime, why post anything.

Macross Plus ==> fun with giant robots/airplanes that do not obey the laws of physics.
Or for a "more" realistic mecha show, try Gasaraki.

I'm japanese. I always loved those animes - not one of those pokemon cr@p, but the actual movies the Miyazaki Haruo makes. This producer knows how to make eye candy stuff very well. Very impressive.

Vipez- well that was a constructive post /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Give one of the recommendations in this thread a look-see and you might be surprised at the "depth" of some anime (not Pokemon).

Princess Monanoke is a delight to read! The movie covers perhaps one quarter of the entire story told in the books but is an absolute visual pleasure nonetheless... highly recommended.

I'll have to check out the anime recommended here /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif thanks-

I should have expected some of those to be posted sooner or later lol Hentai animes are really famous among anime lovers in North America...Well among the community I hang out with at least.

Some ***** kids just love the Yuri or Yaoi types btw but I ain't into this myself.

I have to agree on the likes of Pokemon it's a disgrace to the entire anime world, don't let North American TV fool you, the shows they give on animes have been shamefully editted and are not the same as the versions shown in Japan.

If you want a psychological mindwarp I suggest that you try Neon Genesis Evangelion but NOT on TV, rent them on DVD or VHS or buy them, at first it sounds like the crappy classical robot saving the world from evil aliens type but it's no where near that...And watch out for the movie, it's brutal on the psychological side.

When I showed it to one of my friends after he finished the series and the movie, he was left with the jaws on the floorhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

You can also try Samurai X it's about a kid who is plunged into a Japanese civil war as an assassin but a woman tries to reason him after he murdered her fiance, if you think animes are for kids wait until you get a load of those picks, they'll probably give you something to remember.

Well the thread topic is "Do you guys like Japanimation?"

That asks for both positive and negative comments.

OTOH, had the title been "post if you like Japanimation" then you'd have a point...

If you like airplanes then Miyazaki's Porco Russo is a must. The film has some of the silly Japanese Step and Fetchit characterizations but otherwise is a superb film with ahead of the curb animation. Seaplanes of the Adriatic are featured as well as touching on a much deeper subject: the rise of fascism in Italy.

"I would rather be a pig than a fascist"
