He has lived a good full life, not only excelling in his military career but also active in the community, something that my American Legion Post 244 is adamant about.
I might also add that my American Legion Post is being named after this great man and good friend.
Here is a nice page about him and his distinguished military service.

In case it doesn't say on the webpage, he was awarded the DFC for saving the lives of his crew after his A20 was shot up. Having one live bomb still in the bomb bay and unable to release it, and unable to drop the landing gear, he grabbed an axe and chopped it loose over the English Channel just before they did a belly landing. Talk about a close call. I wish I could find the actual citation. I will get in touch with my post adjutant and see if I can't get it that way.
I also did a very nice interview with him a year or two ago and got all of his wartime recollections on film.
He was also looking very much toward trying out Il2 on my PC to fly the A20, but unfortunately, was unable.

A bump is the least I can do for the man.

I am a little surprised that this thread did not get many hits. This was an incredible man who lived the life we fantasize about and recreate in this sim. He was a real life hero saving the lives of his crew. I am honored to have known him.

Not realy up to par on aviation history and the pilots who flew, but anyone who was willing to give up their life deserves a salute..also he did do a lot for the community all his life..

SO Double salute ~S~ ~S~

Cmon guys show a little respect or at least some interest.

Regards roberts.
