UQMG (UberQuick Mission Generator) for IL-2 FB RELEASED!

Greetings,

My friends, sorry for the delays, however I have been busy. Here are the latest developments of UQMG (UberQuick Mission Generator) for IL-2 Forgotten Battles.

Finally, UQMG for IL-2 Forgotten Battles is released and available for download at http://www.uberdemon.com ( <A HREF=)" target=_blank>http://www.uberdemon.com</a> or http://uberdemon.com. Anyone that wants to mirror the downloadable ZIP is welcome to do so. Send me a quick E-mail at uberdemon@uberdemon.com if you will do that.

This is what it looks like:

http://www.uberdemon.com/pictures/uqmg4fb0000.jpg

Before the details, I must say that it is what I wanted it to be, and the unannounced feature is probably the coolest one: Now UQMG automatically creates 3 versions of every mission made:
- Single Player (you knew that)
- Coop (you knew that)
- Dogfight Arena (YES, You read it right!)

Highlights of the Full Release:
===========================================
* Fully Compatible with IL-2 FB Patches 1.11 (the one just released) and 1.1b. Compatible with 1.0 but with issues with certain aircraft that did not take off from outside of airfields - not a big deal.

* Dogfight Arena Generator - This is a HUGE deal. Now you get to play 2-team dogfights based on teh mission templates, and you can let all bases be enabled it you want.

* Every Map is Available for different types of missions. Some only for Dogfights, but patches with other mission types will be coming out soon.

* Integrated Aircraft Database - This is a neat feature. Not only you get data, and pictures, but you can also sort and and produce a specific list of aircraft based on the criteria you specify - for example, give me all 1942 Soviet fighter-bombers that had a single in-line engine...

* Rule/Random Generator - Before, you could only use sets of airplanes in Random Generated missions. Now you can use the set for 3 tasks:
1 - Random Missions with aircraft belonging to a particular time period/battle.
2 - Edit flights with aircraft selection limited by the current set
3 - Automatically specify aircraft from the Set to be included in the correct teams for Dogfights. (There are 111 Rule sets, with only Flyable and with a mix of AI and Flyable aircraft.)

* Aircraft Editor - New features to help you generate missions quicker, plus, you can specify if and how a flight will conduct air combat and/or ground attack.

* Mission Features - Too many to describe. You can have anything from barebones (no objects) to complex and interactive.

* GUI Improvements - Too many to describe.

* Maps and Missions - Here is the list included with the release, but patches and updates will come out soon:

- Net 1 "Northwestern City" (Summer): 11 Types of Missions
- Net 1 "Northwestern City" (Winter): 23 Types of Missions
- Net 2 "Plains" (Summer): 8 Types of Missions
- Net 2 "Plains" (Winter): 8 Types of Missions
- Net I "Clockwork Islands" (Summer/Sea): 10 Types of Missions
- Net 3 "Channel" (Summer/Sea): 1 Type of Mission (Complex/Enhanced Template)
- Net 5 "Small Gulf of Finland" (Summer/Sea): 1 Type of Mission (Complex/Enhanced Template), Additional unique and different Dogfight Arena
- Lvov (Summer): 1 Type of Mission (Complex/Enhanced Template)
- Smolensk (Summer): 3 Types of Missions
- Stalingrad (Summer): 15 Types of Missions
- Stalingrad (Winter): 15 Types of Missions

The following maps are only available for MP Dogfights, however are all different and have a variety of scenarios including naval battles and ground battles. Every base is populated with AA, Sirens, Searchlights, Baloons (where applicable.). Different areas of the maps may include AA and other objects (For example: Cities). Eventually all maps will be updated with missions.
- Net 4 "Mountains" (Summer)
- Net 6 "Square Valley Island" (Summer/Sea)
- Net 7 "Racing Islands" (Summer/Sea)
- Balaton (Summer)
- Balaton (Winter)
- Berlin (Summer): This is quite awesome. Flying over Berlin near Hitler's old office is quite suicidal for Allies. Flying at night produces awesome Searchlight and tracer effects. The Front Markers are layed in such a way that you could have simultaneous attacks from the West (US Forces) and the East (Soviet Forces.)
- Crimea (Summer/Sea): Another great map with plenty of Naval Action. The two major cities are well guarded. Try flying into Sevastopol... watch out for plenty of barrage baloons.
- Gulf of Finland (Summer/Sea): Another extremely complex DF map. St Petersburg (Leningrad) is definitely well protected. Forts and other constructions are well guarded. Plenty of Naval Action.
- Gulf of Finland (Winter/Sea): Same as Summer Map.
- Kuban (Summer/Sea): Similar to Crimea, with much Naval Action, but more concentrated on Ports.
- Kursk (Summer): This is a Fun one. Look for a huge tank and artillery battle taking place, with rocket launchers and all. This represents the Northern part of the Battle of Kursk.
- Moscow (Summer)
- Moscow (Winter)
- Prokhorovka (Summer): This is one of the most Fun ones. Look for a huge tank and artillery battle taking place, with rocket launchers and all. I played by myself for hours and the battle continued on. The city was basically destroyed, and there were plenty of Armor left. This represents the Southern part of the Battle of Kursk.

* Rule Sets - These are sets used to define which aircraft are available. There are 111 sets to choose from:

(A) = Set includes both Flyable and Artificial Intelligence (non-Flyable) aircraft
(F) = Set includes only Flyable aircraft
(U) = Set is unrestricted. Any team can select any plane available
(R) = Set limits the type of aircraft available based on team

Thank you so much! The limitations of the IL2 QMB has been one of my pet peeves with the game. I've loved the game so much that I've just accepted it, but this is way more than I thought that I would ever be able to do.

This deserves the biggest BUMP of the day! EVERYONE! GET THIS! I wish I had five dollars for every time that I saw someone gripe about the limitations of the QMB. Get this now, and be happy. I been playing with it a couple of hours now, and its like a brand new game. I can have static cameras, and an entire ground war (or not!) going on at the same time. Between getting (most) things patched up with 1.11, and this little addon, I am falling in love all over again. Uh . . . don't tell my wife I said that.

Thank you UberDemon. The man needs to be on the payroll. Either that or start your on software and sim game company. Lol Excellent 3rd party add-on. I am glad that you are familuar with FB. Really is a 3rd party add-on, but in reality, it should be a part of the game itself. I'm still kinda new to this FB. I tried using their mission building software that's bundled with FB, and I've used yours. All I have to say is, Show UberDemon the Money! Lol. Thanks again and thank your wife for me also, for feeding you through this creation, not to mention maybe a few other things she had to put up with while you were laboring for all of us in the IL-2 Community. First mission I did with it I had me leading a 4 man Hurri Mk1 section. We took off from a populated airbase(which took me all of one button press to do )on a patrol along the frontline.4 Emils were also on patrol and at start up were at 1000m.Anyway the Emils reached the border and then headed north but they came back south again and in that time our Hurris had made 2000m.we fell on them through a gap in the clouds, shot up two on the first pass, had another 109 being chased by the other pair of Hurris and the last Messers scarpered for its home airfield where it landed about a minute later.

very immersive considering it took me 90 seconds to make /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

This is fairly long... so sorry, but I tried to answer all replies.

* Low_Flyer, altstiff, RS_Shiesty, Sniper762x51, georgeo76, Ivansky, Manicoti, MIG16, bazzaah2, Liege-Killer, salthill, cozmo_d, hotspace, bazmasterflash: - Thank you for trying. Hope you enjoy it.

* hobnail, rcorporon, Abraxa, jobace, Extreme_One: - Thank you for using UQMG and being a long-time supporter.

* dbuff - Thanks for being a great supporter. And yes, with waffles, UQMG and IL2 FB are better.

* Hunter82 - Thank you for your long time support. Not sure if it was you but thanks for the free publicity at Mudmovers.

* no601_Gilly - "very immersive considering it took me 90 seconds to make" That is exactly what I wanted UQMG to provide... that area between QMB and FMB, plus you get so much more, including Coop and DF, Random, Historical Settings, etc...

* delta_9_tetra - Thank you again very much for the free support help at simhq. You are now on the payroll... unfortunately the profit is $0.00 /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

* JRJacobs - Man, thank you very much. I am overwhelmed.

* Striker-26 - Comments like your make it all worth it. Thank you... "show me the money"... he he yeah, I wish... My wife is just glad I released it... Gives me a break on programming, and I can concentrate on some new templates and a few updates here and there.

* Jambock__01 e toda galera "IL-2" do Brasil - Espero que se divirtam com esta nova versao do UQMG gerador de missoes para o IL-2 Forgotten Battles. Grandes abracos.

* rawheid_rex - To answer your question, I'll quote something I said at the SimHQ board:

"I can't say why Ubi/Madox have not revamped the QMB, but my guess is that IL2 itself is extremely complex. They can choose to revamp their GUI or add more planes and better AI plus other mission features... I prefer the latter because then the online community can create interesting applications. However, like some programmers from the original IL-2 Beta, I am quite familiar with the inner workings of IL2. If Ubi/Maddox were willing to work with me like they've worked with Starshoy on DGen, I'd have new QMB templates for all maps done quite fast. I know how to extract the original QMB templates from IL2 and they are quite simple, but very nice regardless. I could build the None/Bridge/Armor templates for all maps although they would not be as complex as the ones for UQMG."

* SeaFireLIV - Please give it a try, you may be surprised. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

* widgeon - Great, by reading this post you may learn some details.

* PF_Coastie - The link is up... you may have tried the original link in the post... somehow I can never get links and pics to work right in this board. Go to www.uberdemon.com (http://www.uberdemon.com)

* VMF-214_Tsar78 - I am guessing that you are Tsar78 at simhq and who wrote me an e-mail... I am glad you got it working now.

* zodicus - That is exactly why I developed UQMG, so that you can enjoy IL-2 FB a lot, and all before work!

* Black.Six
I coded UQMG in VB6.0 Professional Edition, which means it is actually compiled, and not in P-Code. Much better performance. As anything VB though, there is some DLL overhead, but the code is truly compiled. I like VB because it is so user friendly, and it makes it easy to program user friendly applications. It is very easy to set error traps, plus using option explicit, you guarantee that every variable is explicitly declared. I try to follow good programming practices, minimize any memory leaks (kill arrays, etc...), no GOTO loops, no label routing, etc... I'd love to eventually convert to VB.NET but I don't have the cash.

Despite the bad reputation VB has in the hardcore programming community, most experienced programmers recognize it is not the tool... it is the programming and the end result that matters... but to set the record straight for me... he he, I was a "true" programmer at one point. My background is in FORTRAN, Assembly, ANSI C, and C++. I stick to VB because I do not have the time to learn the intricacies of other languages anymore... I do this for fun.

I guess it has taken me close to 2 years to release this, but understand that my real life is, well, interesting. I am currently in Europe, but I am glad I have some time to dedicate to this.

* Jaws2002 - Thanks! And with the new ships in FB, things are more fun for Naval battles. Try some of the (Summer/Ocean) dogfight arenas as well, plenty of ships there.

* brtnstrns - what exactly is your question? You can fly every flyable craft in FB in the Single- and Coop- generated missions in UQMG. If you are talking about AI planes, you can only fly them in the Dogfight Arenas if you select a "Rule" set in UQMG that has AI aircraft - those marked with (A). Since you are setting up the server yourself that is OK, but be aware that anybody that joins your sessions will be able to select the AI planes that are enabled for that set. If you do not want AI planes in the Dogfight Arenas then make sure you select one of the many sets that are labeled (F). To change the Rule set, click the "Change/Select Rules" button.

* tsisqua - you have been a great supporter just in these last few days. The reason I wrote UQMG was exactly to address the crowd that did not want to spend much time designing missions. UQMG fits in that weird middle ground between the QMB and FMB, because it is easy to use like the QMB, but it is powerful like the FMB. I saw a chance to make UQMG a tool that addressed not only the QMB, but also allowed the missions created to be available for COOP, and recently, Dogfights. Then I started adding features, like integrating it with the IL-2 GUI/Menu system, generating Random data, opening and saving data, creating sets based on time, aircraft time and fiction. Eventually I wanted to integrate a database. There are leaps and bounds between the original Demo I released and this. It's been taking I guess close to 2 years for this to be exactly what I wanted it to be - I do this for fun, so time is limited.

Now for trying something new, make sure you play around with flying in one of the other flight groups. In the QMB, you can only fly in the first flight, but in UQMG you can fly on the other flights as well. Additionally you can fly as Wingmen, or on the other positions depending on how many aircraft you have available in a flight. If you use one of the historical Aces, you can fly as a wingman for him; that is, Ace flights are not generic copies of the Aces, they are the similar type of aircraft.

Additionally try combinations like, only use certain flights and not others, they can change the effect of the mission, because they may come from different bases, plus seaplanes and tug/glider combos always change things.

Finally, try having a mission where you start in air, but enemy starts in base, or vice-versa, or both in same location... things can change.

Plus remember that IL-2 itself incorporates many random features... things won't repeat exactly the same.

Demon/门揵erDemon

thank you for your response

i have a *mediocre* understanding of VB6, C++, and Java, i took a guess that you may well have coded it in VB. i have looked at assembly - but i don't see much point in spending a week to write a program that prints the letter "a"/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

i understand VB has a bad rep as does most microsoft related stuff - but yes i don't see much point in spending a week to do something that can be done in a day - unless you are writing something that needs to be as solid as a rock - such as critical systems. - it is a good job you have done it in VB or else we may be waiting another year for it!

* Jambock__01, cozmo_d - thanks for the bumps.

* Cippacometa - you are welcome. Did you notice that there are Rule sets based on North Africa and Italy? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

* hotspace - thank you again. Is Hot Space a reference to Queen?

* TooCooL34 - thank you, and you are too cool yourself. I'd love to get more involved with Ubi and 1C, but it is really up to them.

* fluke39 - well, not every sigle moment of the last 2years, but significant enought to say I do this because i really want to... I like to address people as much as posible, because my life is very dynamic... I may not have time to answer other questions for a while... Lately it has been more stable though.

* Black.Six - your assessment of assembly is on the money... here is my "hello world" and it only took 500 lines! Maybe they'll come up with Visual Assembly#.NET ... gasp... he he. But yeah, unless you are dealing with critical systems, VB is an acceptable programming language.

* pauldun170 - Did you download from my site? That is a CRC check error, which I can almost guarantee was a an error due to the download itself. A surge or an interruption could have caused that. I'd try downloading again. Good luck.

* jobace - thank you man!

* FG-56th_Lamb - thank you. The campaign aspect is something that I did not really think about. Starshoy is really the man on that... I guess you create a few missions and then put them in a non-dynamic campaign... but that is not that fun I don't think. You could definitely take a mission from UQMG and then start building on it in the FMB and creating more complex missions, etc...
