Hi,
I am relatively new to GW and i was wondering if it is possible to resupply and then return to stranded/ailing ships? Also does it apply to ports than i had invaded aswell? If its not possible then why resupply? Whenever i do it everything on my map is gone and my patrol says NULL??? So what am i missing here? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
Also, any tips for hitting a destroyer doing 30kts would be very helpful http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif i set my TDC to fast, lower the draft but i always miss http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif
BTW: GW....fantastic http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

No, the moment you go any further away of about 30kms the ship will amazingly repair itself go away on it's merry way. Also, when you initiate the Milk Cow principle you are ending that patrol to start another new patrol - sorry, just the way the game developers were short sighted to even include this feature into the game - I think the modders have done a great job considering the situation. The mod is not perfect but at least it gives you the chance to reload and refuel mid Atlantic.

You need to spot them earlier enough, and get into a favorable position and very close to get even a chance of hitting ships doing even 20kts speed. It really depends on the target, the weather and the visibility. If it's dark and no moon I will normally stay on the surface at flank speed until the last moment, in clear visibility and in daylight I normally stay on the surface and at flank speed until a range of about 5 to 6000 meters away for merchants - capital ships much further away. I would then submerge at flank speed at a whopping 7 to 8 knots! and I then normally re-assess the torpedo running distance - if it's greater than 1000 meters for fast running torpedoes I normally give up - as the wake the torpedo will give up the game and the target will start going evasive and the target will try to dodge the torpedo. Don't even bother with slow running TII torpedoes - they actually run slower than their indicated speed!

Hope this helps

Thanks Goose, i was wondering why when i came back to my marker everything had gone, like you say, at least we can refuel etc. Maybe its something for the developers to add in future?
With the torps, i try to get 400m/1000m away but when they are going so fast - wow its difficult to get a hit, but i suppose thats the point, its not suppose to be easy is it? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
Thanks for the advice, i have just installed BR's ship mod aswell(thanks BR - works perfect) so i am off to my next patrol with your advice and new ships..... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

No,the develo[ers will not add anything else to the game, patch 1.4b was the last one. If you have trouble aiming with TDC. try guesstimating where the ship will be, and fire off a pair of torpedoes, guesstimating the gyro angle. Works I'd say 75% of the time below 1000m, especially useful in heavy seas/precipitation, when the periscope won't stay locked on target. Just takes a bit of practice.

Do you mean fire ahead of the target Foehammer, with still maintaining fast and magnetic? Lets say i'm 800m(with good angle) and destroyer doing 30Kts, should i lock on or fire slightly ahead?

On the fast destroyers I lead the destroyer quite a bit. I also run the the torpedo on the surface and with impact only. I rarely us the scope to get the speed. I have noticed that merchants are about 5-8 knots. When the destroyer is hunting you, the are up to 20-25 knots. Therefore, I go to the TDC room and manually dial in the speed I believe the merchant/destroyer to be at. I end up not hitting the ship directly in the middle all the time and I suspect the dead middle hits were rare in the real thing. The torpedeo usually catches the tail and stops the ship. Then you can casually send in a torpedo at your liking as the ship is dead in the water. What I cannot understand is at full real your weapons officer is pretty much usless. You do it all. Does not make sense to me if your the captain and the weapons office does not help. Why is he onboard then? I run the game with weapons officer assist like he is supposed to be doing. I make all the bearings etc and he dials them in with exception of the speed I estimated the ship to be.

Thanks AVG, thats great info, i agree, if i am gonna miss a target it is always because of speed not angle or draft, wow isn't it just so annoying when you see the torp skim past the back of the boat http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
I tend to use magnetic aswell, so i will take your advice later and switch to impact.....thanks again
