This is propably not the right forum but I had trouble getting response in the tech support forum.
I recently downloaded Hyperlobby after a got a decent web connection again (have been stock with 256 kB untill a few weeks ago)
I used to play via ubi.com but since nobody uses that anymore I switched to HL but I'm having trouble figuring it all out.
When I log on, my ping numbers seem to go through the roof. My connection to everyone else is listed as being either very bad or simply "time out". The funny thing is: I can join the other servers with no trouble and play with little or no lagg even though HL keeps telling me my ping is enormous.
Could this have something to do with my PC settings? I have disabled Windows firewall and currently I'm running Norton Auto Protect.
Also could this have something to do with the fact that noone joins when I create a server? Or maybe it's just that noone likes me? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
Any help would be much appreciated

Well, I have a 10mbit cable connection and only see 5 yellow bands in the hyperlobby, but once in a game my ping is about 40-80 on a fast host. I can even host 12-16 players in coops.

I suspect some connections filter unix ping commands. I'd pay more attention to your numerical ping in the game. Although having 5 red in HL, may not entice people to join a game you started.

One thing to check, is if you have a hardware router (Linksys, etc.) would be to manually set your DMZ IP to the port your game system is on. It will be a local IP # like 192.168.1.100 or similar. FWIW.

Thanx for the reply, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
you're talking about a router, actually my internet cable runs through a switch so that i can be online with my laptop too, I don't know if this is what you were talking about?
If this could cause any trouble, could you plz explain in more detail what I should do, your first explanation didn't make much sense to me since I'm still kind of a n00b when it comes to internet connection.
thx a lot in advance http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

In HL you can not ping yourself. Therefore you will always appear all yellow to you.Others will see your ping if your router allows it.

If you see all red bars that person is most likely behind a router.

When you host having all red because you are behind a router does not effect the game but people not in the know are reluctant to join.
You really only have to worry about your actual ping in the game.which you can see when you press "s".

You can play fine on a steady 56k dialup connection. However do not host more than about four players.
