Are you sure people are raving about a "Battle of Britain" movie or a "Battle of Britain" game?

The people on this forum are talking about the game. (Next game to be released by Oleg Maddox next year).

haha oops. Thanks Jaws. Maybe "raving" was the wrong choice of words. I an familiar with Oleg's BoB never ending project. But when WWII movies come up a certain BoB movie is always mentioned as "one of the best" or at least "worth seeing". That is what I'm refering to.

Is the 1969 movie the right one?

EDIT: Thanks Vipez, we posted at the same time so i just saw your reply. That is the movie I thought and that is the one I'll get. Yipppeeeee!

There are several variations of it out there. I highly recommend getting the "collectors edition two disk set", which has an extra disk loaded wiht production stuff and the excellent Michal Caine preview reel. Lots of good stuff, and it hasn't been altered any. One version had a few small alterations in what the Germans were beign translated as saying I think. I have two versions and the collectors edition is easily the best with all its extras. The story of how it was made is almost as good as the movie itself.

Back in the day when there were only 12 flyable spits and 3 flyable hurris.

Heck, I even have the dvd of the music. Best music ever in a war movie (next to "Patton").

Its very very good for 1969, and probably better than many today purely because it uses real Spits, Heinkels, Hurris and 109's. No CGI.

They really do capture that 'large battle' feeling with just a few aircraft and there are very few outdated effects. A few of the explosions look poor but thats it.

I can forgive the SPit IX's and V's being used as Spit Mk1's and the Buchons used as Bf109E's becasue its so well done.

Still one of the best Airwar movies by far, definitely worth picking up. Just be prepared that it WAS made in 1969, dont expect modern style effects

SOme nice clips from teh film here...

That does my head in, seeing a MkXVI bubbletop with clipped wings taxiing. And Buchons with Merlins are just so wrong. Its actually a very good film except for the aircraft inaccuracies, and you relly can't blame them for that. I'm just waiting for someone to digitally tart it up and put in Spit Is, Hurricanes and Emils.

The "other" newer Battle of Britain movie that often gets recommended (which actually uses a lot of left over aerial footage from the 1969 movie) is called Dark Blue World.
