Hay every one what€s up hope every one is doing well.
I came to IL-2 via X-Plane and the local video game stores barging bin.
So far i have been very impressed with IL-2!
Its simply stunning when you compare it to other flight sims! No other flight sim i have seen thus far has been able to model flat spins!
Thus far i have flown a number of solo missions and had a blast!
Even my wife thinks that it€s pretty cool!
She was screaming at me last night to watch my 6 and to and i quote here "shoot that guy! He sucks! He tried to kill you!"
But guys you will have to excuse me, and i know this has been asked a dozen times before but.
1) where/how can i join multy player games?
2) What patches do i need? What order should install them and most importantly where can i get them?
Only reason i ask is that i use to play BZ (Battle Zone II) and the order in which you installed patches was quite important.
3) What video driver would you guys recommend?
I'm running in a new PC Pentium IV with about 1 Gig of ram but not a great video driver so any help would be much appreciated.
Well guys thanks in advance!
And PS great screen shots guys! Great work!

Follow this link my friend, everything will be explained.A new update is imminent with many saught after planes so your timeing is spot on!!
When you are patched up to date may I suggest you look for a program called IL2 Mat Manager,a program that installs correct markings (includeing the swastica)and install that.

To play on line download a programm called Hyperlobby.
It allows you on line combat.
As for the drivers for your graphics card, most people recomend the latest set.
Lots of answers lie in these forums, just spend a little time looking around, and don`t be afraid to ask questions no matter if you think they sound really stupid!

Welcome to the game. It's great when IL2/PF can still impress new folks coming into the game after being out for several years now. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Go through the different forums : General Discussion, Pacific Fighters, Oleg's Ready Room etc. and check the various stickied posts at the top. They usually have important info like patch order, tech. specs to run the game smoothly, third party program info, and so on.

This may hurt a bit too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Il-2 Sturmovik is the original sim. It was more or less superceded by Il-2 Sturmovik:Forgotten Battles, which oddly is NOT an addition to Il-2 Sturmovik

I think you have the original Il-2 STurmovik, since it was in the bargain bin

In addition, Il2 Sturmovik and Il-2 Sturmovik:Forgotten Battles are not compatible with each other

In essence, a new series of sims was begun with Il-2 STurmovik:Forgotten Battles (usually called FB for short)

FB was expaneded by free patches and updates, and also by a commercial add-on called AEP (Aces Expansion Pack)

In addition to all THAT, a sim called PAcific Fighters (PF for short) was also released by the same developer

PF can be merged with FB, and it can also be it's own "Stand alone" sim

What you're going to need to play online, is either somebody who is playing the original Il2 Sturmovik, or someone who is pacthed to your current version of FB, or somebody who plays PF (if you have PF), or the whole nine yards of FB+AEP+PF, and patched to v 4.02-

AND another version is to be released soon, v4.03

Welcome to the online IL2 community. After you get connected to online games with Hyperlobby, look into downloading TeamSpeak. It's what we use to talk to each other in-game. That way, all your teammates can join in with your wife to "shoot that guy! He sucks! He tried to kill you!"
http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Seriously though, once you get on teamspeak and on a good server, you'll find lots of folks who will help you out with any questions you might have. If you see any VF-17 guys (that's the squad I'm in), give us a holler and we'll help you out.

Would love to give it a goe with other people!

As stated by the others:

install Forgotten battles
install Aces Expansion Pack
install Pacific Fighters

Go to 3Dgamers.com and get the appropriate patches and get up to speed on your version number.

DL the Hyperlobby client http://hyperfighter.sk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=5 (or All Seeing Eye http://videogames.yahoo.com/multiplayer as an alternative...both are free)

DL the TeamSpeak client http://www.goteamspeak.com (optional, but also free and a must for truly coordinated online missions. Does require a mic though)

After all this, you'll be up to speed and able to join online in the latest/greatest servers. You'll also be able to find a server to cater to your comfort level as far as difficulty is concerned. Many also host their own TeamSpeak (TS) channels for their players and though they're oftentimes underutilized, you can usually find someone on who can help with some of the finer points.

Please post back if you have any questions. I'm rather useless at times, but someone here can usually get things sorted for you.

You havnt lived (comparitively speaking Flight sim wise http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) if you havent flown on line with this sim.

Cooperatives, Dogfights, mulitplayer missions they are all excellent!

Man i hope you stick around after gettin all this info back, i must admit i am daunted just reading it all, even though i am up to date etc http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

If you do go the "whole nine yards" u wont bedisapointed, there is regularly over 600 people flying fb/aep/pf merged on hyperlobby, and at weekends that number can almost double! It really is a huge online community with different mini cultures within it. You realy wont regret gettin up to date, just hope u have eough time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Go Here:http://www.uberdemon.com/and install it once you all loaded and patched up to date (or at least 4.01). It is a simple mission generator that adds immensly to the ease in which custom missions can be created. The FMB utility is great but it takes time to build up your missions - this utility provides detailed missions with many aircraft quickly.

I have IL-2 Sturmovik!

so i now have to go out and pick up the forgotten battles version so i can join you guys?
maybe i can just get it from direct to download, couldn't find any other versions of IL2 at my local EB games

TAW_Oilburner
02-02-2006, 03:53 PM
Whoa there cowboy, before you go direct download wait for somebody knowledgable to chime in. I know there are incompatibilities with some of the direct download versions, just not sure what they are. In addition, you will want to get the whole wad (Forgotten Battles, Ace Expansion Pack, Pacific Fighters). There is no cd key registration,etc.. so used copies are fine. I would suggest EBAY etc..

If you can find the "gold pack" it already has forgotten battles and ace expansion pack together, so all you would need is pacific fighters.

here are some forgotten battle games and also 1 or 2 gold packs

http://search.ebay.com/forgotten-battles-il2_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8

here is pacific fighters

Actually you'll need three things...

1. FORGOTTEN BATTLES
2. ACE EXPANSION PACK
3. PACIFIC FIGHTERS

Your best bet would be to shop online as they can be difficult to find in stores.

Good luck and welcome! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

ps...stay away from the downloadable versions...find the discs.

shahsxfx- chill dude!
Check the sticky at the top of this forum and get the facts on what versions you want.
If you want to fly online (and it sounds like you do) you need to be aware that different versions/patches/combinations are not compatible online.
I've seen this advice given before- check what you want to do online, what you think may best suit you, and get geared up accordingly.
If you can afford it, get the whole series, merge them, and patch up to the latest version (due very soon).
Be aware that Forgotten battles and Aces Expansion pack was released as a combined package in some countries ('Gold Pack') and there are strong rumours that a DVD of the entire series will be released soon.
Have fun!

thanks mate, no i'm not going to run off to direct download, i'm going to go and check out the other EB in the mall, maybe they will have all of the required items.

over europe would be cool.
but from what i gathered Sturmovik won't let do that.

blakduk is right, they will release an "air combat collection" with FB + AEP + PF. You have no use of your IL2 Sturmovik cd if you want to play online, i think that 90% playing IL2 online is using the merged installation.

Here's little info about the new DVD -> http://chaos.com/?action=view&id=754305

Hey ya shahsxfx.. welcome aboard. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Hit this (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/26310365/m/4591089933/r/4591089933#4591089933) link to get an idea of what you get when you buy FB+AEP+PF and merge them.. keep in mind that there are a few planes that arent on this list as it is a few months old. If you are impressed with IL2 then you will love FB. It is a top notch sim.

As far as your hardware goes.... it looks good... IMO 1G is the sweet spot for this sim.... more doesnt hurt.. but less can hold you back. For a video card I recommend a 6600 or better if Nvidia and X700 or better if Radeon. Look here (http://www.pricewatch.com/) Great prices. You will want to get the Forgotten Battles GOLD pack if you can find it. In that link I posted with the info on the sim you will find links to COMP USA. They have a locator to see if you local CUSA has the sim... it is going to be $50 basically.. but it is more than worth it. This is the best WWII sim on the market...or ever for that matter. Come here if you have any questions... also hit the Sturmovik Essentials link in my sig. Lots of goosd stuff there. Lastly.... when you hit the Essentials link you will see a site there called Airwarfare.com. This is THE ONE SITE FOR ANY SIMMER. There are tons of great sites out there mind you.... icluding right here for this sim... but AW.C is special. Browse it thoroughly and often.

Wrong!! I saw Forgotten Battles in bargain bin at Big Lots here in the states only 6 months after it was released!!! That was so long ago I can't remember when it was. I remember telling my wife that I wished I had waited to buy it since it was half the original price. When was FB released?? Was it 2003 or 2004?? I think PF came out in late 2004 IIRC.

for those who don't know what a VFR is go and google 1987 Honda VFR 700 the white one is my baby! Found her in a garage with house plants growing out of her! For you engine buffs the 54 VFR has the most interesting engine configuration that i have ever seen! It almost reminds me of what the WWII german aricraft enginins look like. low angle V-4 with gear driven cams! And a fuel pump fed carb system!
I think she can pull some negative G's with out the engine sputtering!

hi mate - to answer a few questions

1) game versions and all patches and correct order found here

http://www.airwarfare.com/guides/patching.htm

2) check out the unofficial FAQ and manual on this site

3) here is a good thread that offers advice for new players

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?q=Y&a=tpc&s=400102&f=23110283&m=9181071422&p=1

4) If you are wanting someone to check over your system and offer advice on graphics then post a thread in community help forum

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=frm&s=400102&f=49310655

include your dxdiag so that people can understand your system- info on how to do this in FAQ above or here

http://www.airwarfare.com/tech/system.htm

5) dont be afraid to come back and ask if anything still isnt clear but as Bearcat said most info is found on airwarfare.com

6) to fly online see this guide

dieg777, mates, guys who have been having too much fun shooting me out the sky!

All is well PF is an amazing game and all of your help i have downloaded all the pathces up to 4.02 and hyper loby, nex i'll pick up the chat program. but so far so good! the graphics are great not hick ups yet! so the money i would have spent on a new improved fansy shmancy video card i'll either put towards a nice valentines day gift for my wife or new tires for my VFR? choices choices!
as for flying so far i'm pretty good but i do have to admit it takes a bit of getting use to. you can't go from X plane to PF and not have your head explode! there are no flat spins in X plane, and if there are you have to be doing some thing very stupid to get your plane into a flat spin! in PF you pull up to hard and wahlah! 1000m free fall! but i'll get use to it. so far the most imbarasing moment has been being stuck on a carier because i didn't know how to relase the plane! duuuuhhhh!
ok guys thanks for every thing, let me fool around a bit and then i'll join one of your groups or maybe make one up?
i'm leaning towards the Hells Satans (Homers old bike gang) or maybe HarveySax who knows but thanks for every thing guys!
and if you see me in the not so friendly skies don't laugh too hard!

ADICTIVE! no! you don't say!
today was a beautiful day and instead of going for a joy ride i played this game!
3 hours
a few dozen lawn darts
and no kills!
dooh!
as for the PC its doing just fine.
I have a Radeon X300 video card
1 gig of ram and a P4 chip.
if any thing more ram would be nice and a better video card would be great but for now all seems fine.
i can see the trees and all the buildings.

I think you have the original Il-2 STurmovik, since it was in the bargain bin

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Actually, I'm:

Correct!

He found http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Il-2 Sturmovik http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif in the bargain bin

He didn't say he found Il2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles there.

Everyone else a$sumed he meant FB, except for me

So my suspicion turns out to be correct. It pays to note details http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif </div></BLOCKQUOTE>But the way you worded it it sounded like you figured it was the original IL2 only because he found it in a bargain bin. As if you were implying he could not possibly have found any of the newer versions of the game there, including FB. Thus my response. So I'm back to being right again!!

You are too funny Chuck, I have been reading your many posts for years and you hate to be wrong so much you will almost always retort when someone corrects you.

You're a typical New Englander, I know the way you guys are as I lived there for a short stint. I came there from Indiana and everybody in Mass. used to ask me what part of the south I was from. You guys up there need to learn your accents better too!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif People from the south instantly recognize my accent as yankee!!!
If you don't pronounce like this: "I paaked my caa in haavad yaad.", you are viewed as an automatic hick of some sort. Funny, I park my car in Harvard yard!!! The whole region has an air of snobishness about it. Outsiders usually never feel welcome there.

Get a better graphic card. I prefer an ATI 9800 Pro 128mb. I got mine from newegg.com for $130. I get descent frames running perfect mode. Hate to see you with a great computer but slow video card. Hope to see you in the skies soon!!
