My humble guess is......

Not many...

Me: 1152x864, 32 bits on Excellent, and having acceptable FPS, BlackDeath track: 30FPS AVG
I've just tested 1600x1200x32, BlackDeatch track: 17FPS AVG.

But, I do not see too much of a difference on eye candy ......might be my aging TI-4200, on a 19"CRT.
Oh yeah, running on Excellent here.

Question: What size monitor do you use?
Question: What Landscape detail do you use?

Running an Athlon64 3200, 1.5GB ram, and an ATI Radeon 9800pro.
"Perfect" at 1600x1200 on a Samsung 21.3" LCD.

I don't measure the frame rates, but it's smooth as silk.

slarrson is hitting the spot in my opinion.
He's got a large enough monitor to use 1600x1200.

Me myself, I will not go for 70hz refreshrate....
(Yes, real Hertzes, not MegaHertzes.... Sorry! ;-)
70 Hertz hurts my eyes, I see the flickering... maybe just me.. I use 100Hz.... Nice!

Why would you use such a high resolution, apart from the hud log which is a bit bolder on 1151x862....
You ask who has 'reasonable FPS', so I assume you do not get these now.... ?
Why not notch resolution back a bit, up the refresh rate, see how it looks?

(Just my opinion, you know!)

i do with the New PC i just got.
I havent done the water=2 or the trees on 2, but i've got everything else maxed out, and i'm running comfertably at 1600x1200 without stutter.
I've got a AMD FX-55, 1 Gig of RAM, and a ATI X800xt

problem is:

even those who have the hardware to use 1600*1200 don't do it because you can't see any planes further than 5-6 km at such resolution...

I have a 21" monitor (only a radeon 9600pro vid card) and the difference is incredible:

@ 1024 I see planes as soon as they are drawn (up to 15km away) while @1600, besides fps a bit too low, I can't see planes until they're way under 10km from me... quite a difference when you try to set up a fight

I agree with Toocool. I can run it...even at perfect, but the return just doesn't justify the end. The improvement in IQ isn't enough IMO.

At this point I run the "stock" 1024x768 with 4xAA, 8xAF with everything cranked to their highest settings and I run in perfect about 50% of the time.

I have a 19" LCD
P4 3.4c
1 gig RAM
6800 Ultra
