It's their motto. Other than that it's pretty self explanatory.

Ahm...

they based the game on a book named almunt

here is a link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamut_%281938_novel%29

(if you diden't get the connection the book has that sentence and if you still don't read the wiki page about it then you will get it...)

I wonder if the people you kill for are lieing to you. I imaging the ending will be altair killing his master.

Maybe your be able to kill the other assasins instead of the 9. Probally not but it would give a nice twist to the whole good / bad choices alot of games have.

Assassins used drugs >.<

I seriously hope that was sarcasm, otherwise, prepare for an eternal verbal sundering by moqqy... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Anyway... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
I think it really doesn't mean anything specific. So it just sumarizes the assassins. They are concealed socially (Nothing id true), and they kill without personal reason (Everything is permitted).

At least that's game-wise!

There was a guy on 1191 AD that gave a really good explanation of "Nothing is true, Everything is permitted" I wish I had saved it. >_<

it means that there is no reality every thing is lets say imagination and in this imagination everything is permitted
think about the game and about the sci-fi in the game
hope you understand http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

You have to break up the sentence...

Nothing is real - Everything is an illusion

Everything is permitted - You can do anything and everything you want

It was the Assassin's motto I don't really know why but it really sums up the game really well

Nothing is real - It's a game >.< not real
Everything is permitted - Freeroam, climb, kill, be nice, be mean do whatever you want because everything is permitted!!

"Nothing is true, Everything is permissible." Where the last words of Hassan Ibn Sabbah in the book Alamut by Vladimir Bartol.

The saying was an allusion by Bartol to Sabbah's proclomation of "Qiyamah" (roughly meaning, at least as ismalis saw it, as the end of Sharia (Islamic law) and a proclamation of a new law...I think the actual Arabic translation is "Day of Judgement/Resurection" (my arabic is a bit rusty outside of everyday conversation). During the time of "Qiyamah," Sabbah claimed the ismailis law supersceded orthodox Islamic law.
That is a simplified version of it, of course...

William S. Burroughs, an American poet, made the term famous in the '60s and modern day "Chaos Magicians" (Ceremonial Magic) use it quite often. Another quasi-religious/political movement called "Discordianism" are fond of quoting it as well.

In a nutshell "Nothing is True" = Everything you were taught is WRONG! "Everything is Permissible" = Create your own reality.

But, I kind of like the "Nothing is true" = Game, "Everything is Permissible" = Free roam! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

The Hashishin, as far as "drugs" go, is not a proven fact, and more than likely is an out-right fabrication. Some scholars think the term "Hashishin" comes from an archaic arabic derogatory term "Hashiya"...which, basically is an insult like "Sc*mbag"..."Dirt bag"..."Low-life." Of course, this was comming from Suni muslims (and to a lesser degree Shia') who were not very fond of the Ismalis (Hasshishin).
