Hello all,
I haven't really gotten into a good combat flight sim
since the days of Jane's ATF (yes, i did like that game).
I was quite good but for one reason or another didn't get
into anything much after that in the way of flight sims.
I have been looking at these UBI sims lately and have been
regaining my flight sim interest.
More specifically, IL-2 FB and LOMAC look like they are (or will be) excellent games.
What do you sim jockeys out there think?
I am very interested in WW2 games, but LOMAC looks like it will offer a lot. Are there online squadrons out there that don't mind training someone?
Which game do you like, for what reason... etc...?
How is the multiplayer aspect of IL-2? can you run with 7 or 8 other players in a missions?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!!

You're asking the wrong question. Everyone here thinks FB rules(in fact, anything made by Maddox rules). So you won't get a difference of opinion.
There are tons of online squadrons. There's a link to the squadron list somewhere on the left hand side of the main page.
I am a member of 3./Jg51, and we'd be happy to have you in the squadron. Most of our new enlistees come in raw on the Me262, and then we teach them to fly it correctly. The only thing we recommendyou do is invest in a decent joystick because it's really impossible to fly without one. We fly with 'Full Realism' settings, meaning that the sim is as hard as it gets. Some don't like this, but I find it gives me a great sense of immersion and the feeling of -'suspended disbelife' as movie makers like to call it. Nothing gives you a greater sense of immersion that having to look a map up and compare the features on the map to ground terrain to find out where ou are. Anyway, I think you get the point. You can find oout more about us at www.jg51.com (http://www.jg51.com)

I would also love to get some lessons from someone. I'm a complete noob to sims, I fo have a joystick (Wingman Force 3D) and would appreciate any help at all. If you are inclined to help me, e-mail me at ziffbob@cogeco.ca and we can maybe set a time to meet online.

Responses appreciated.

I am a member of WTE [ Wedge Tailed Eagles Australasian Net Gaming Association ] [ http://wte-anga.com/ ]. Our IL2 FB unit 2TG [ 2cnd Talon Group ] has a very large player base of Australasian players, The majority are from Australia though.

Our sqn is proud to boast a CFA [ Combat Flight Academy ]which has just come online. Training can be organised for members but that is not a single reason to join. We have training nights on tuesdays and thursdays, often you'll see 25-30 WTE members there. WTE brings a sense of teamwork, an association where Fun, Support, Teamwork form the foundation. Feel free to drop by and have a look

If you enjoyed those older Flight sims in the least amount. FB will addict you. I am 38 years old and seldom think of anything else. I can't beleive the way I get so involved in this game.

I belong to the 131st we have mostly central USA time zone guys but we do have some UK'ers invlovled aswell. As for training I learn every day I don't think training ever really quits.

I just suggest you find a squad any squad that fly's a schedule that you can meet and keep. You will learn a ton from anyone involved in this game for any lenght of time.

My biggest problem is I fly like its real, I seldom think outside of the box. Online some of the pilots think outside the box and do some pretty amazing stuff with their aircraft with stalls and other tricks to fool me into their sites. LOL

Hope you get involved!
