Should work fine with USB and Gameport,

Im using a wheel/pedal set on the Gameport and a USB joystick.

You will prob need to keep the wheel plugged in as well as the pedals as they are both on a U cable.

I didn't want the wheel lying about in the way, Ihave children. So I got an old joystick with trim wheels (1.50 from Oxfam) and ripped it apart. After a couple of nights working out the pinouts I put the trim wheels and two buttons into a box (from maplins) and then soldered it all into a plug to match the missing wheel.

Now I have two extra wheels and two buttons as well as my pedals.

A fair amount of work but worth it.
