In my other life as a Bf-109 pilot I am flying in a "formation" of 6 109's. Me being #6. I try to keep up with my #5 but all of a sudden he flies off in another direction.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif Why does he do this. Is their no cohesion to the formation in the Luftwaffe? The others in the flight don't do much better either. The leader is often left alone to fend for himself. Is this the way the Luft... flew historically?

I doubt this is what they did in RL, Whaen yuo'l get to be the leader(#1), and if you played IL2 you already know, You will have to scream in the radio all the time, during a combat, if you wanna keep them close to U, but from my experience, i leve them to get to defend themselves an dcall them only when their strictly necesaire.

Russian and Luftwaffe AI pilots do this but its definately not realistic.. Instead of slowing down a bit and using flaps to keep formation...they circle around and boost their engines to catch up. They end up circling half way there as they catch up, circle, catch up...so on and so forth.

Go on easy and set autopilot. Watch the AI routines do the same thing with your own plane...its crazy.

What I find even worse is flying escort for bombers, the Russians will send a couple of plans, pulling my hole flight away from the bombers, 8 109's chasseing two I-16's of cores there's 8 more Yaks and I-16 fighter's 3 clicks ahead, and I like starting my campaigns as a Gefreiter, this leave's me to follow up on my bomber's alone! And all the time my leader is telling me WHAT THE HELL! GET BACK IN FORMATION..LOL

I agree. Escort routines need to be fixed.
