I was just wondering if these were in the game? I've not heard mention of them in the manual or in any posts on the forum.

I´m not sure if there are in the stock game, but sure there are with some mods as RUB.

Dont worry they are stock....Ive ran into subnets before around harbors and back entrances and Ive seen the mines only once in career and several times on Multiplayer missions...which I play ALOT of.....=)

you'll know when you hit a sub net. its a horrible noise, especially when the speakers are turned up real loud.

Now, I'm assuming sub nets are only found around harbors (which doesn't really concern me since I'm not in the habbit of sneaking into them). Are mines also only found around harbors, or are they placed further out at sea?

Cool! But because they are stock, shouldn't your reply have been "Yes, worry... worry alot!!!"? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

So this brings my next question, does anyone know what to do if you were unfortunate enough to make contact with them?

They are around 250-500+ meters from harbors IIRC. I dogded a few of them trying to sneak in.

Like ILPortillos, I€m no Harbor Raider and infinitely prefer the open sea for good hunting.
Not surprisingly, I€ve never come across either sub nets or mines either.
I am rather curious about the mines though.
From NFXFSX€s reply, I€m assuming there are actual individual mines which one can see in the water (given sufficient lighting and weather, etc); but I€m thus also wondering whether they float at surface, or are they anchored and float submerged (if submerged €" at what depth(s))..?

Thanks to anyone who may enlighten me €¦

Best,
~ C.

I forget which one, but when I was sneaking into a port in England, I went to 3rd person view and saw that I was in a massive minefield and it was by sheer luck that I did not hit a mine. They were only about 20m apart.

Mines, yes - they're stock standard. If you approach the north shore around Merthyr (sorry Longdog, but Merthyr will always be a seaside town to me now http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif ) then you'll find them in rows chained to the ocean floor not a few klms from the shore.

Have an approximation of their depth setting(s)? Or are the depths staggered?

The ones I saw were at different depths. One was on the sea floor while some were at 20 meters below to 10 meters below.

Oh thats just GREAT, now I have to worry about bumping into mines! Next thing you'll be telling me is that the destroyers drop depth charges! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

For sub nets... If it is dark and noone is relativly close.. Surface and hightail it over the net..

As to Mines.. I have NEVER seen one ..... Noks on wood.

Just a FYI.. I ALLWAYS go Enemy harbor hunting hehe... Nothing like shooting ducks in a barrel.

Every patroll i go on i duck into a harbor to see if any BIG ships are there.. So far ive gotten 3 Crusers.. 3 Carriers (2 of wich were FLEET carriers) And a snagle of smaller junk ships.

Sub Nets

Both of these pictures were taken returning from my last campaign patrol.

If you've downloaded the Harbor Traffic mod, you'll also get overhead maps of where they're located, as well as an escort to lead you out to safety.

Funny little side note, I've sailed through that mine field on the east end of that island more than once on my way out of Lorient! I guess it's dumb luck I didn't blow my boat to smitherines. You could picture 'ol Friedrich Weiss getting white in the face when he got his copy of that map.

Its fish in a barrel. Ducks can fly out of the barrel, fish cant.

What about the screech of death? Does it still exist as of 1.4b?

The mines in this area were suspended from the seabed approx 5-10m from the surface. The depth of the water was approx 12-15m. There were rows of mines all along the coast in twos and threes (in the same fashion as the image posted by ILikePortillos).
