Hi guys i'm new to this site and don't even have the game yet. I've been wanting this sim for a couple years but had to wait to get a faster computer first. Now that I will be getting that comp pretty soon, my first game to get is IL-2 FB! I can't wait to relive history!
The KingCobra is one of my favorites and it is a very good, beautiful airplane. I was going to suggest on this forum that it should be added to the list of planes (i didn't see it on the list!) BUT then, to my astonishment, the first line i saw on this forum was about the Kingcobra!
I am very happy now that it is in the works. It did enter the war very late but lend-lease sent 2400 of them to the USSR. There is no mention of the planes in combat; by the time they flew sorties there were very few German planes available. However, there are sources that say the Germans did see the P-63 in the skies. Even so, 2400 is a lot more than 195 P-47 Thunderbolts and 0 P-51s (already in the game) given to the Russians. This info is from the book Red Stars and other sources.
I do have one question: When will the P-63 be available for il-2 FB and Will it be a patch or in a whole new game?

The Russians received 10 P-51's not zero. The P-47 did see combat, which is more important then numbers received.

I want the P-63 as much as anybody, but it doen't have a large roll on the eastern front war. Just like the Ta152, and other planes we're getting. If your into online wars. You will never see any of these planes.

The P-63 didn't see any combat over the Eastern front, though some P-39s were mistaken for Kingcobras (by the end of the war only the Moscow PVO units had received P-63s).

But, during operation Autumn Storm against Japan, P-63s flew many CAS and escort missions, one pilot (2nd lieutenant Miroshnichenko, while he flew with HSU Vyacheslav Sirotin (an ace with 26 kills while flying P-39s) as leader) bringing down one of the few opposing japanese fighters (identified as a Ki-43, although it could also have been a Ki-84).

Thanks for the info guys that was very interesting.
As about the numbers and combat history... i was just trying to make a point as to WHY this plane was not included in the game. There were a great many of these planes in Soviet colors even though they saw little action. There are other planes I would question about being in the game also, if that is the standard. It was overlooked but i forgive Oleg for that because these guys are doing a great job creating this game.
OORAH! for the Oleg team.

P-63 did see combat. Oleg has proof of it. He originally thought it did not, and thats why it was not included but found pilot accounts, and German accounts of the P-63. One P-63 pilot was shot down, captured, and escaped by capturing a Ju-88 with a B-1 buzbomb attached to it and flew it back to Russia.

I'd like to know more about this "combat" information. is it posted somewhere online? I just knew there had to be some sorties of P-63s. I guess it's easy to lose details on a particular type plane among all the other thousands of VVS aircraft during that hectic time period. I wasn't there so I only know what someone else tells me.

The p-51 did see combat in Russia. Look up Operation Frantic 1, 2, and 3. IT was however, in the hands of american pilots on loan. Each were small missions though, and the Germans spoilt operation frantic 2 with a preemptive strike.

The Soviet Union received 2,421 P-63s* from the US. I'd say it definitely deserves a place in the game.
