View Full Version : My last wish for the 190: cannons only!

Hi all,

I know it's an old story, but wouldn't it be possible to fire with the 190 ONLY with the wing cannons?

Cheers,

CHDT, I'm not sure what you are asking but I take it that you mean you want the option to fire all four cannons and not the machine guns? In reality the FW-190A had three weapon selection options:

1. All guns
2. Outer-cannons
3. Machine guns (cowl) and inner-cannons

So actually FB is historically accurate. I'm not trying to oppose your suggestion or anything, I just wanted to point this out.

I know it's historic this way, but what is not historic (at least for me) is this huge flash of the fuselage machine-guns: I tried everything, sunglasses, black paper on my monitor... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

More seriously, I would prefer to be able to fire only the wing cannons (even if it's not historical), to be able to use these guns in a more realistic way: immediate corrections are not possible with the big flash.

Franky, the historicity of the game won't disappear, if Focke-Wulf drivers can fire only with their wing guns!

I forgot, the A-8's and the A-9's fitted with two 30mm's and two 20mm's in the wings had even the possibility to see their fuselage machine guns removed. That's would be cool, less weight and no more flash!

Like I said CHDT, I wasn't trying to oppose your suggestion, I just didn't know how many people knew about the 190's weapon options (historically speaking).

I agree, its a shame about the muzzle flashes. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif I could understand at night or late evening but in mid-day they are a little silly. Besides, on the A-4 and A-5 they are just MG17's, its not like they do anything anyway. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

What I would like to see is flames coming out of the exhaust ports at night. Many 190 night fighters had glare shields for this reason, and later they used fluted exhaust dampers.

You're right, but I read on these forums that the gun flashes are too deep in the code to be easily changed. So an option to fire either the wing cannons or all weapons could be an easy interim solution for being really able to use the fire power of the 190.

This would be awesome, and should have been implemented a long time ago.

And have the cockpit struts in the right place (farther apart/outward).

What I really want is a FW-190A-1 or A-2 for '41 servers and missions since we have a Western map on the way.

NO WAY, do NOT remove the outer cannons!
Why do you guys want to cut down on your ammount of firepower?!?

"Why do you guys want to cut down on your ammount of firepower?!? "

Because an A-8 without outer cannons climbs as well as a D-9. Surprising, isn't it, but there are datas for prooving that. Don't ask them to me, I don't have these datas, but the "high authorities" are aware of that. Without the outer guns, the 190 is also more maniable. It's valid for the A-8, but for the other 190's too, like the A-4 without the ETC and the outer guns and the A-9 too. Ok, now, I'm really out /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

1. To increase maneuverability and climb-rate for dogfighting. It was a historic option that was used.

2. It was well known in the LW that outer cannons were not necessary to knock down any Allied fighter, including P-47 and especially the P-51 and Spitfire.

3. Again, it's simply an option. If you want to keep the outer-cannons then you have this option as well.

It is not that we don't want to have our Machine Guns in place, it is just that Maddox Games still refuses to give us the opportunity to fire the Fw's guns as they were fired historically!

1) Machine Guns on top of Cowling (MG17 or MG131) ==> Button#1

2) ALL Cannons in the wings and wingroots ==> Button#2

It's that easy. Not a big job changing the button allocations, maybe 1 minute http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

...one of the ignored wishes I don't understand.

My one and only wish and hope is that the bomb rack underneath the 190A-5(when out board guns removed) and the 190A-9 will have the option of having them removed.
Mr.Maddox can we please have this option if its not to much to ask? petty please and thank you?

Also, people flying around with the huge MK103s slung under the wings need to remember that they probably never used for dogfighting and were probably only used on very rare occassions at all.

There would also be a pretty big flight performance hit which isn't modelled in FB. The FW190 should be slower, climb, turn, and roll worse with those MK103 gondolas slung under the wings.

They do look pretty cool though.
