View Full Version : one of best patrol and ... I deleted it

I just finished first patrol GWX 2.0.

That was a great patrol - VIIB sailed directly from Wilhelmshaven to the north
(Patrol grid BE61). To avoid British Channel Captain ordered voyage near Scotland and Ireland.
On the way we sunk Large Merchant and decided to check what is inside Scapa Flow.
Enter was not very difficult therefore our Captain was the first in WWII (before Prien) who
sunk enemy fleet in her own base.
Weather was good - night and foggy. In the early morning 16th Sept '39 we tried to check what is planned by Home Fleet.
Scapa Flow offered us alone Renown (no escort) anchored on the left side and closer to Headquaters escort cons. 3 DD and inside few merchants, troop transport, tanker and Hood http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/2998/hoodinsidelx9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Torpedoes were prepared and on his signal we fired three in salvo against Renown. She sunk after 20 min. but .... nice surprise no reaction.

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/8223/renown1kj3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
U-46 reloaded all four tubes and sailed slowly on position. Engines stopped and next salvo with 4 torpedo's impact ... Hood still alive.
http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/1076/hoodtorpedoedjr6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Master ordered left turn 180 and last remaining topedo was fired from stern tube (1300 m).
She sunk finally ... escort didn't react once again http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2177/hoodqp9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
so we changed a little bit history (Bismark must find other British BB on her way to Briest)
http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/1036/hoodinthemorningql4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
the escape was even easier only oxygen reserve down to 25 %.
Next days were quite good - weather improved and we could use our deck gun 88 many times.
British coasters, small tankers and other types of steam ships are added to flags just prepared by crew. We even painted own symbol on deck.
One small convoy escaped us nevermind 3 torpedoes left. Finally we patrolled 24 hrs BE61 and managed to sink modern tanker by 2 torps.
Crew had no more material for black flags so Master ordered return trip to Wilhelmshaven.

and the best - I just delated by mistake this patrol http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
Is there any way to have it back ??? (or should I start once again first patrol)

Great patrol!

How did you delete it? Did you load a previous patrol? Cause then it's a lost cause.

But if you played with files, check the recycle bin. I'm sorry if i sound like a smartass, but not sure what exactly you didhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Great patrol report Mariusz http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I hope it goes as well when you re-do the patrol! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'm very dubious about raiding ports these days. I tried Loch Ewe once in GWX 1.3 and my boat got very badly damaged by mines, so I've not tried any ports at all since then...

I finished first patrol then gave all orders to the crew and stopped playing.
Next day I clicked instead of saved file (before 2nd patrol) on (before 1st patrol) and immediately I lost previous v.good patrol.
Such mistake http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

If you be so kind let me know what to do ? (I'm not expert so I need exact details how to do it)
Do I have any chance to start from 2nd patrol ?

I know how this feels. Can also happen when you just forget to save and the game crashes on return to base. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

In that case, it's gone forever. Too bad. I've done that too my first time playing. Although i didnt lose 150K patrolhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Best of luck!

Hi Mariuszj,

I have made the same mistake myself before.

Something that all SH3 players should remember is that the SH3 save routines are simply screwed up and are very touchy.

Unfortunately, you have indeed lost that patrol.

All that I can suggest my friend, is to be very careful of the patrol you choose when you delete saved games.

It is very easy to choose the wrong one, mate.

I'm sorry. I wish I had a more favorable answer for you.

It happened me yesterday. Always thought this
won`t happen to me.....but after a day hard working... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

I thought I made a mistake last time but I observed something. Few days ago I started once again first patrol GWX 2.0 and after some hours I saved game. Next day I didn't see any record on my career (no saves, as well as, even no beginning of patrol at base). I decided to remove all SH3.
When I done it and immy loaded everything SH3 + 1.4 + GWX 2.0 acc. to instruction.
Ystd I started once again patrol 1 and ... after excellent possition I had to go to bed.
Today unfortunately the same no records absolutely nothing only remained in new profile my last name. Nothing else ....

I had no such problems with GWX 1.4 and stock game.

Can you tell me what to do ???

01-07-2008, 10:44 AM
I had to re-install SH3/GWX2.0 once again.
Look what I finally achieved in my first patrol
http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/4905/obraz1fz1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

but still problems with GWX 2.0 - it Scapa Flow I had to exit my patrol however a lot of deck gun ammu remained on board - everytime game crashed at the same moment during escape ???
is it not enough memory or old video card
Experts - tell me please what video card / memory (or something else) should be replaced ? Any suggestion ? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

my "old" PC :
Intel Pentium 4, 3215 MHz (16 x 201)
Gigabyte GA-8I848P(-L) (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 3 DDR DIMM, Audio)
Intel Breeds Hill i848P

NVIDIA GeForce 6600 (256 MB) nVIDIA GeForce 6600 AGP
Realtek ALC655 @ Intel 82801EB ICH5 - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-2/A-3]

Mariuszj, sorry to read of your problems. IS your GFX card a 6600, or 6600GT? It's just a thought, I'm not suggesting it is the cause of your problems, but it might be.

Mariuszj - two HMS Hoods in one patrol!? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

BdU will never believe you!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

On a more serious note, there is a way of recovering any career files that you accidentally delete in the future... But ONLY if you get some software installed on your PC to recover deleted files.

I use Norton UnErase. I have successfully used this program in the past to recover SH3 saved files I've accidentally deleted. Each time it has worked 100% reliably! As soon as you accidentally deleted the career files, quit SH3 and run Norton UnErase. It gives you a list of all recently deleted files on your PC. You locate the career files in the list, and the program will put them back for you. BUT, you have to have the software installed BEFORE you make the mistake!

Norton UnErase is now part of Norton Systemworks Premier, which is quite expensive ($100) and includes loads of stuff you will never use (like the crappy Norton Antivirus). There may be other programs that do the same job as Norton Unerase, but I've no idea if they would work as reliably.
