Howdy there,

Tired of the long string of **** attached to the planes?! Shorten it to your liking with custom icon settings!

I've written a step-by-step visual tutorial to make it easy to learn.

Section 5 has an idea which I don't think is in common use, but I've found to be REALLY good. No more typing!

One comment. While you can't customise icons (unless you're the host) in online games, you can turn them off or remove some of the information using the "Toggle Icons" keyboard control. Otherwise very nicely done http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. If you're interested you may like to post a link to this at the airwarfare.com forums (link in my sig) and invite Snoopy to include it in the FAQ in addition to or instead of my guide that's already there.

Offline anyway, I never ever fly with those things on. Real pilots don't have them - neither do I.

Real pilots don't look at the world thru a 19" 2D monitor either. Limited icons are for me.

I'm with Diablo on this one, the real visual accuity cannot really be modeled. Not at 1024 by 768 anyway <ggg.> Limeted icons for me too. All the best, LongHorn

Thanks for sharing. Icons are something I've wanted to alter for some time. Your step-by-step with visuals is especially helpful for a computer novice such as myself.

Nice tutorial! However, there's one little typo.

From part one:
"All distances are in kilometers. There are about 1.6 kilometers per mile and a yard is about 10% longer than a meter, so the setting above are:"

A yard is actually about 10% shorter than a meter. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

From the tutorial:"All distances are in kilometers. There are about 1.6 kilometers per mile and a yard is about 10% longer than a meter, so the setting above are:"

A yard is less than a meter not 10% more.1yard=.92 meters.

Ketalar & Troll: Thanks for the correction. The page has been updated. :-)

Shotdownski: You're welcome. You're the kind of dude I had in mind when writing it. A mass of written info gets me bogged down, too. Hence this and other tutorials on the site.

Tully: Thanks for mentioning the 'Toggle Icons' control. I had never used it up until a couple of minutes ago. I'll write about it tonight.

thanks for this. i have been flying off line for quite a while and this is a really good tweak IMHO. i like the black dot feature and the fact that you can just have the plane type with out id
