Dear All,

I would like to express a question regarding the concept of combat simulation games. My first guess is that the phrase means, more or less, €œsimulation of real combat events €. In other words, €œreal€ naval ships and subs, €œreal€ topography, €œreal€ arsenal and so forth and so on.

Strangely, this is not the case for the German navy flag. I noticed, among many others, that the German flag is somewhat €œaltered€. But why is this? I mean this is only true for the GERMAN flag! The others nations are lucky enough to have their own, real, flag.

I cannot understand the motives behind this act. I stick only to the €œsimulation€ part of describing the game. As a result, we should view while playing, real ships or subs and perhaps most importantly REAL flags!

I believe this act deducts a great percent of the €œrealistic€ notion of the game.

I hope for an answer and the historically and logically fair inquiry for flag restoration the soonest possible.

Just for the record, the used in game German navy flag is not a navy€s one. If you need any help in selecting the right one please let me know.

Regards,

George and Tassos

For some well-known reasons, some symbols on the flag of the Kriegsmarine are put off-limits by german laws. German laws most apply only to Germany, but in SHIII only the language-code is altered, which means the rest is everywhere the same, including flags. Since Ubi did not want to get in conflict with german authorities, some symbols were not included.

Celeon999,
although indeed funny, I think the "mostly" in Gmuno's message is actually correct. German law also applies to German-registered ships in international waters, German-registered planes in international airspace, German embassy grounds all over the world, to German military personell serving abroad, and - thanks to recent developments in international law - also to Germans abroad in general. German citizens committing offences such as the ones indicated by Gmuno outside Germany may nevertheless be prosecuted by the German authorities and punished on their return to Germany, whether returning voluntarily or not - most countries will (and EU countries must) extradite on request, if the offence is serious enough.

@Celeon
Make a little dash to France, get a nice picture taken and dash back home. Look who's ringing your doorbell. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
