Well, a week or so ago I was browsing the forums before I went to bed. I stumble upon a new thread that said something to the tune of "what to do with this graphics card?" The author was chris455.

Upon opening the thread, I was intrigued to see that he was wondering what to do with his slighlty used X850XT since he had just upgraded. So I PMed him and asked what sort of deal we could work out. Surely I was not the first to inquire!
The next day I rcvd a PM back from chris. He said he was shipping the card to me and wanted nothing but the cost of shipping. I sat there stunned for like 5 minutes and even asked my wife to come verify what I was reading.

It just amazes me at the kindness of some people I have met while playing this wonderful game that we all enjoy so much. Over the years I have seen and been the recipient of many such acts.

My squadmate Baylor hooked me up with his TIR2 when he got the new model. I still use it today. My friend Hunter82 hooked me up with a special deal that he worked out just for me when we were both beta testers. Boy I miss him around here. If you read this Bill, come on back man.

Chris455, This is my public Thank You for this incredible act of kindness to more or less a stranger in which you only know through casual words of text and whom has this game and computers in common. What else can I say man.

Thank You my friend and all who have given so much to this great community. (even if it is UBI thats running this mess!) Sorry, had to throw that in there.

Wow. I have a NV6800 that I'm satisfied with but I am a little envious. Isn't that something. This is one of the worthiest posts I've seen in my noobie time.

If anyone needs any 14in crt monitors, or some hpIIP laser printers let me know! Cause I've got a basement full of such useless rubbish!

(They are not quite useless rubbish as I give them to schools and such.)

Have a fellow squadie that has purchased my own and at least 2 other HH's 46 DVD's. Originally another member intended to buy the entire squadron one until the deal fell through due to availability problems. Both of them deserve a big http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

LOL Waldo...I've seen your basement. There are so many volumes of books down there I would doubt if you could even find a printer or monitor.
The guy has so many shelves of books, I bet he hasn't seen the actual walls in the last 5 years. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Actually, I was condidering responding to Chris` post too, but considering I`ve already got a GT6800 it didn`t seem right.

I agree completely. When I was having comp problems B16 Enk sent me a gig of (expensive) corsair xms ram to try out in my comp, plus he spent countless hours trying to help.
Stuff like TiR's and joysticks quite often get sent around the squad.Great community.

I'm also a fortunate recipient of Sturmi kindness. At a time when I didn't even know what an E6B was (it's a manual flight computer used by real pilots), I hooked up with a real life Scottish pilot & Sturmi fan in Canada.

He sent me one of his E6B's, which I use in every mission I fly. Great for immersion BTW. Many thx Paul. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Just to show the difference, I got fed up with Falcon 4 and posted on the Falcon 4 forum at Sim HQ that I would give away the entire package (including the phone book sized manual) to anyone who was truly interested and would use it in good faith. I got a PM from a guy in Texas who gave me a sob story about how he was poor and had a family and all. I sent it to him. The guy never even sent me a Thank You.

Yea. had a similar one once. Did some FREE artwork for a guy who requested it (not IL2 another forum fantasy picture). After he pleaded for a pic for free. Spent time, energy and my best brushes on it. Sent it and never heard from him again.

And I know the work was good.

That`s why I don`t do free work any more unless family or as a favour already done for me.

All it takes is a `Thankyou`. Makes a world of difference.

p.s... I may make exceptions, but only very rarely now.

I think I'll wait a while till I do that. There will be so many new things that we can get that aren't even available yet and the things that are available now will be so much less expensive. Everyone just please wait to "BoB-grade" your rig. Till BoB comes out the hardware will be so much more advanced.

Everyone is so willing to help out the new guys that have so many questions, and honestly help them to become better virtual fliers. That means a lot.

I did put in a request for a used tir2, because I couldn't afford a tir4. I got one response, and after I asked him what he wanted for it, he never got back to me...was kinda rude.

I will be buying a TIR4 with my income tax money next month, since I struck out. I may buy a new video card also, and if I do. I will give my old one to whoever might need one. It's just an Nvidia Geforce4 FX5200 256mb agp card, but it works great on everything I've tried to play. If it will help someone who otherwise could not play, you are welcome to it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It is nice to see such generosity. It's equally nice to see it done without a lot of self serving promotion. Wish Walmart and other major businesses could do that.

If I might suggest, if you have an older computer you no longer need, there are many worthy groups like senior citizen homes or groups who help kids from less than affulent homes who would find uses for what we might consider an "old" machine. I'd bet just on this forum alone, we could put together several machines from parts we have laying around.

While we`re at it, we should show a hand for the Moderaters here too.

They are very even-handed, fair and don`t ban or censor strictly because they don`t personally like a fact.

I`ve been on a couple of forums which I guess must be frequented by children and children moderators because they`ll warn you if you say something like,"You have a lot to learn if you think that`s how life works!" Which usually causes many to complain that I`m not being `Nice`. It`s very hard to discuss realism on some games forums when trying to explain how a particular game aspect should work.

Or they`ll sometimes just inexplicably deleted whole posts without any reason given whatsoever and I`m certain it`s because some `moderater` gets `personal` and decides he`ll follow you around and track whatever you do or say and delete it. I got so annoyed with one so-self important moderater that I was going to give him a personal PM paged letter, but just left instead. What`s the point? He has the power and will probably just ban me...

Just like you get good forums and good moderaters, you can get some downright dodfgy moderaters who go on a `Hitler` trip.

I think it`s down to age primarily. really.

If you've seen/heard guys/gals spend HOURS trying to help folks get on and up in the air, you'd know that such acts of kindness aren't that unusual here. Yeah, we're small, cliqueish, fight like in-laws at a shotgun wedding at times, but most of us are decent folks who share a similar dream/love of WWII aviation.

We develop friendships, we care genuinely about one another and if we've something sitting around that'll help someone else stay in the air, we do it. Why do you think I check in here 10 times a day? Why is my post count here (until the Twilight Zone post count shift) higher than it is anywhere else? Because I'm welcomed here and if I was to hollar "help" folks from all over the world would do what they could. Where else do you get that online?

Any of you been on Baseops.net forums?

Generally inhabited by real military aviators.

I've never seen any place in the world where people beat their chests over 40 hours in a Cessna 150 as a "one up" for UPT selection.

They're quite arrogant and it makes me wonder what they're more full of: sh*t or themselves.

I'm glad people here don't take themselves so seriously. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif
