Probably a stupid question but which is best to select for smooth graphics and smooth gameplay ?

OpenGL runs ok atm although a little stutter now and then never tried DirectX for output.

I run OpenGL because S3TC compression dramatically increases framerate for no visible loss of quality and DirectX does not support this (at least in IL-2). Although you can select S3TC compression under DirectX in IL-2 Setup, it doesn't actually work.

Can't tell you the technical reasons why Open GL is a superior format to Direct X, but that is my uninformed opinion. Happy Gaming!

All of my m8's tell me OpenGL, but it doesn't run as smoothly for me it seems. The nice thing, when I did run OpenGL, was that I could minimize the game without dropping the game.

Nvidia 4400

PS: Since the patch, we have all observed much more stutter than usual. Our host actually froze up for about 25-30 seconds the other night, even though we were just flying. It was a large map, with no AI and our formations were very close (about .3 km spread) which was probably pretty math intensive, but still it never happened before.

We're running the DCG with stats tonight for our SOS game, so we'll see how it goes...

OpenGL give me crazy Stutters, DirectX runs 90% smoother than OpenGL, For my tastes, Can't explain it though.

I think FB was creative with OGL natively... I love DX though.. THe screen looks rock solid !!

Another Issue,
guys, is the Perfect setting now disabled?
I just cant get the game to run in Perfect settings. Dont know why, and its how I had it before...

any ideas?

Ok, thanks for your replies.

I will try DirectX but looks like OpenGL is the better option.

TBH This patch has stopped the 'pauses' I was having in game and I'm not having any real problems (apart from using UBI Lobby) I was just seeing if I can make a fabulous looking game look even better.

Cheers,

Oh, HyperLobby is great ! I played the most CoOp games last night I have since I bought this game lol.

ive tried OPEN GL

but it stutters pretty bad for me.....but that was before i upgraded..think ill try again...

as for the connections for games... less laggy, in my opinion....but it still there....i very much belief..that it has to do with the actual connection , and the host . i cant see it being the actual patch.....because some games ive played with 20+ people, and it was incredibly smooth. other times, its against 3 or less...and i get like 10 fps...

but i could very much be wrong. if i am let me know....id rather be corrected..than be a know it all who doesnt

You really have to test OGL vs DX, each computer is individual. I get better FPS and smoother play on OGL..
