Got a new system but haven't decided on a monitor yet, and am not sure 46 will run on widescreen and would appreciate any advice.

thanx in advance

Ditto.

Go 24" if you can...and yes, IL2:46 can run in widescreen without issue with the proper conf.ini changes.

Just make sure your system can handle a high resolution.

I bought a Samsung 226BW, works well, with X1800 and AMD 3800+ could probably use a slightly faster CPU but not complaining.

I ended up with almost the same thing, Samsung 226CW. The only difference is the CW is made in Canada. Works great w/Nvidia 8800 and Asus 6800 w\2 gigs Corsair 6400!

Thanx to all who responded!

For 22 or 23 inch go with an ACER, they make crappy pc's but great displays for not much cash.

That Acer is pretty nice if I must say so myself.... and the sale on it ends 10/14... I'm curious how much did you pay for your Samsung...?

$329 at Best Buy, probably too much, but compared to my old 20" crt this is like heaven! I'm using Vista Ultimate and just love it. A wide screen o/s needs a wide screen.

I'm also running a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW and couldn't be happier with it. Have had no problems at all.

Well until 10/14 it is selling for $300 @ Microcenter ... and even at $329... for a good 24" widescreen LCD moitor thats a pretty good deal any day of the week.... That monitor sells for $500+ normally... If you do have a Microcenter near you and you get an add and take it to Best Buy.. you can get that monitor for the MC sale price..without having to wait for a rebate... That is all butter IMO... perhaps you can take it back.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif and yeah... the difference is amazing.. it was brought home even more clearly when I went to begin setting up a server on an old board with my old CRT... wow what a difference.

Hi bigchump

I recently bought a Viewsonic VX2235wm 22" LCD and am very happy with it. It has a 5ms response time (reportedly), lower the better. Runs at a high resolution though, 1680 x 1050 so if you want to run IL2/1946 at high settings you may need a new graphics card. I had to replace my 7600GS with an 8600GT to get back perfect mode at the higher res...but WOW ... this is a new game now !!!

Screen and card cost me $650NZ ... about $450US.

My new Samsung 226CW 22" monitor is as perfect as a monitor can be. I would recommend it to any of you who are upgrading! It has a response time of 2ms. Running 46 at 1680x1050 is truly amazing.

Rather than build my own system like I did four years ago, I opted to just buy one from retail to avoid the weeks of tweaking the mobo that I went through last time out. I got a Velocity A50 from Circuit City. This baby has a 1333mhz front side bus which just flat smokes! The graphics card is a Nvidia 8800GTX-SLI w/ 320 megs on the board sitting in a PCIE 16x slot. There's another 16x slot on the mobo for a second vid card, but I can't imagine having to use that feature for some years to come. The memory is two gigs of Corsair 6400 running at 800mhz, with room for two more gigs.

I've been flying the P-39 since day one and what a difference! The system speed allows me to avoid those nasty spins that always happen at the worst possible time. I've probably got as many hours in the "Iron Dog" as anyone else and this is not B.S., it's easier to control with a fast puter.

Those AWFUL stutters are a thing of the past also. I can dogfight in the midst of heavy AA with nary a one.

Total upgrade cost was less than $2400. Well worth it to me.

Thanx to all who responded - I hope your upgrades go as smoothly as mine...
