Because it would be better that oleg team would work on a hard base game like il2 sturmoik
the il2 sound was perfect graphich awesome
why would do a stand alone game
i konw the airplanes a lot were added in FB but could you put them in a expansion pack.
and then update the game with the patches.
Make il2 sturmovik "Perfect" with the expansion pack and then you can see if you are going to make patches.

thanks

I wonder how much say Oleg had in the decision to sell FB as a full game. Not much, I think.

UBI wanted to sell it as full game to get more dough, simple as that.

I don't mind business practices for a good product.
I'll pay for a FB add-on as well.
What ticks me off is people supporting crap over-priced products like CFS.
If good money goes towards good product then you're supporting more 'good product' in the future, or unfortunately visa versa.

I asked myself the very same question when I bought FB. To work around my suspicions that FB was more of a addon, I traded in my original IL2 since I figured FB would be all that IL2 was and more....sigh.

A handful of extra planes and perfect settings that I cannot run are hardly worth ~ $70 CDN.

Waiting [mostly] patiently for the big day. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I am probably one of the few that did not purchase original IL2. I did play the demo a lot but felt like it just wasn't quite my cup of tea until FB came out with CEM and more planes. When I first played it I smiled to myself thinking this is exactly the same as IL2 Sturm (no surprise) with a few added touches and more planes. It is disingenuous to see this is a whole different game (although it is incompatible with original).

All that being said it was an inevitable business decision that FB be a standalone game in order to attract sales numbers. How many new people would have bought FB and IL2 Sturm? - Not enough I would guess. Although I have been having trouble getting FB it to work online, I'm happy with it, but I can understand those that feel a little betrayed at buying one game for the price of two.

Il2 and FB together costs as much as CFS3. What's the problem?

Exactly!
Not to mention CFS3 is a POS.

Think about it this way if it helps. You want to fly in the Pacific, or in the desert or maybe even over Korea right? Well UBI will be more motivated to release Oleg games based on these themes if they can make more money off it. Anyway, you'd spend a lot more on just food in a week.

Why is FS2004 due out next month a new game ?

Afterall it just offers better clouds and scenery and a few planes .. it should be a free addon downloadable from the Microsoft site.

Go on a MS forum and post that and see what happens http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

XyZspineZyX

they did it for money.

lets face it, fb is an add on, not a stand alone game.

was it worth the full price we all paid for it? certainly not.

was it worth it. yes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

this is why i dont believe the addon patch is going to cost us anything. That would just go to far.
paying for an add-on for an add-on? they cant be that stupid/think we are that stupid. That would just go too far, and realy upset thier customer base.

Davinci.. wrote:

it was only an addon for the few people on this forum who really only cared aboout the new aircraft for online dogfights and nothing else .. because they do not run perfect settings and do not use the campaigns

the game had an entirely new graphics engine using pixel shaders and a new campaign engine .. THOSE features make it a new game

and yes the campaigns need work and not everyone can use perfect settings but that does not make FB an addon

the whole "addon" thing about FB is coming from a few individuals that really didnt want FB at all they just wanted a couple more planes for IL2

Please let's not let CFS3 be the standard by which all Flight sims are judged. IMO MS dropped the ball with that one.

Another way to think about FB is that anyone who bought both payed for the patches to the first one in a way. Hope that logic does not hold true for P-51 addon as that and other promised addons convinced me to get this SIM.

The good thing was that they brought everything forward, making it, effectively, 100% backward compatible.

Trying using any stuff from Game Version 2 with Game Version 3 and you'll understand what I mean.

New graphics engine.
New FM/DM
New Maps
New Aircraft
New dynamic campaign
New features (CEM, Multiple engine control, searchlights)

What part of that didn't you think warranted a stand-alone?

Bet you were mightily ticked off to find out that No One Lives Forever 2 was just newer missions and a tweaked graphics engine rehashed from No One Lives Forever.

You also must not own any sports sims, where the biggest change is the year after the sport's name and the player rosters.

The FB software itself was the cheapest part of the whole sim experience for me, when compared to the computer upgrade, RAM, X45, TrackIR, 9700pro, etc., etc.

Sheesh, some folks simply can't run out of things to complain about!

take up ski-ing

or check out the annual fees to be a member of a golf club

or price the hourly hire on even a Cessna or Piper

neverlone the cost of running a warbird, even a Stearman

Flight simming is a cheap hobby compared to most, and even that most of that cost is hardware.

At least you guys got some enjoyment out of the first IL2. I was in Best Buy trying to decide what WWII flight sim to buy and ended up choosing IL2.
I brought it home, installed and then had to go to the site to get the patches only to find that FB was coming out soon; ended up being 3 weeks later. Oh well, serves me right for impulse buying, should have reasearched a bit and saved myself $60 Canadian. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
