I was at the video store and saw this and picked it up since I've heard that it is considered a classic in some circles. Haven't even opened the box and was wondering if it would run on XP. Anyone out there running this game on XP???

hey dude,

it will run on xp BUT not without special patching (something about a glide wrapper or something [I remember thinking it sounded like a brand ofg condoms /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ... I can't help you more, but try googling RB3D or Red Baron XP or the like and you'll find the info-

cheers, /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I have an original copy of RB3D (1997) which runs perfectly well on an Intel P4 Falcon Northwest system with ATI 9800pro graphics. Two caveats -

(1) The 3D graphics are 3Dfx Glide based, which means that in order to get even the 1997 variety 3D graphics you'll need a Glidos wrapper. Go to the Delphi flightsim forum for more details on this.

(2) There is a fantastic variety of add-ons and patch improvements available for RB3D. For example, the Full Canvas Jacket patch is said to absolutely transform an already great sim.

Red Baron 3D...sniff...a true classic. But a tricycle next to a sportscar compared to IL2. Time has passed. Still, I think it was one of the first true 3D flight sims. And it is still great fun to play. If you do like it, try Red Ace Squadron, made by the same people.

Hehe, OpenGL can probably be defined as a birth control contraption, given the amount of time people spend in here. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Salute Blankenship

Our Squad still flys in RED BARON online in various wars, and we'd be happy to point you in the right directions.

Leave me a PM, or leave a note at our Website:

RED BARON is still a very good Sim, especially if you incorporate all the graphics upgrades and the new Flight Models.

It can be run with Windows XP, although there are some issues which need to be addressed.

You don't need a Voodoo Card if you have a good system, you can use GLIDOS.

Hi, I also have RB3D and I'd like to get back into it. I've played it for well over 2 years I think and was a member of Jasta 9 for a long time. The problem is my current video card doesn't support the glide thing, I saw in this thread it might be possible to fix it. Also it is my opinion that RB3D is one of the best flight sims next to IL2. Some of the ways that the AI fly are exactly the same in both sims. And with patches the graphics are nearly equal. I've been wanting to get back into it for a veeeery long time now.

My system specs.
P4 1.6GHZ, 512 Ram
Geforce 3 ti 200 64 megs ram

Thanks for your post. I bought Red Baron 3D because I'm obsessed with combate flight sims and wanted something from WWI. I'm guessing that RB3D is the best but I'm a little nervous (not being very tech savy), that getting the game to run on my system will be a pain. Are there some easy patch fixes and what are the best add-ons?

I love Red Baron 3D. It is the sim that got me started on sims. I need to dust off the CD now.

I remember this classic, does anybody know if there's a Bristol F2b Fighter available for it? Pref. with a working AI rear gunner like the IL2 Field Mod. in FB.

If you are a fan of WWI and especially RB3D then you have to take a look at the latest community patch..

http://promisedland.wingwalkers.org

Full Canvas Jacket revamps the graphics, adds new skins for the aircraft, and tons of other features...check it out.
