View Full Version : When Hydraulic fluid is hit use manual gear down!

Just A idea that came accidently....
I took off in a Wild cat the first time and tought something wrong with my keybourd becuase the landing gear key-button'G'didn't seem to work?! then i found out I could finaly use the button "Shift G" I progammed long ago for that use and manualy handcranked the gear up and Down with a other command I pre-programmed in the 'control'window.

Now I know it 's gear is hand operated (neat to see the hand-cranck swivel, on your lower left view each time you press the button!) I tought about the following,
What if your hit in the Hydraulic oil system, about having to operate the Landing gear by hand?
It will give some extra excitement and realism to combat fliyng since many guncamera films and accounts show gear comming down when hit in the hydrualics!

In real live the A/C would make A upwind pass over the Airbase or Carrier to let them controll if the landing gear was down (And Arrestor-hook & Flaps for Carriers) if not they would inform the pilot to make a belly landing or ditch the Aircraft on the water.

It would be great to also see a landing gear legg come down if you hit your opponent in the hydraulics.

I have had to lower gear manually in a few different aircraft after losing hydraulics (F6F-5 and Fw190A). It does seem that this is a new feature http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yep, I've seen it too, in the p47 and the BF110. On another note, The droptanks in the p47 catch on fire if you shoot them. It's pretty cool http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

it's already in the game...

if your hydraulics get shot, you hit "manual gear down" andyou'll see it come down by gravity (and can't bring it back up if your plane has hydraulically powered gear then...)

Actually its not new... its been here since IL2. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

But it's quite rare and there's no damage message for it.

I often blamed my keyboad/stick buttons for a stuck gear though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif when I noticed it was still up on touchdown http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Bear's correct...it's been in the game for some time now. I've also noticed (at least in the Corsair) that the hydraulic guage indicator actually works and if it drops to zero, you cannot operate gear normally. Having manual gear mapped in game has saved many missions for me.

Yep, its not new, I've been getting myself shot up and having to manually lower gear for a long time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hello Flydutch,

The Wildcat actually had manual landing gear. Pressing "G" in the Wildcat won't do anything. You have to raise & lower it manually (assign key commands for both). Also the same thing when flying the I-16 Rata. I believe these are the only two aircraft which you have to raise & lower the gear manually. Like Bearcat said, its not new. Been there from the beginning. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif =S=

I have flown thousands of misssions since Il-2 apeared without needing to lower the gear manualy? (Exept for the I-16 & Wildcat)
But maybe this explaines some of the "I did lower my gear Didn't I? " moments!
Still I don't see Gear dropping down on the many A/C that i have shot down ( I do this 'Up Close & Personel')
And don't you agree that a message would be welcome?

Squirral, Thnx for the info but i did now that.

had some experience like that but in the first il2 and it happend only once. Flying a bf109 E4, i have been hit by below, and at the landing, i saw that only 1 gear was down (the left) (i flew then with external views...a long-long time ago); tried the manualy gear down button but it didn't work and so i remebered some chapters of books when the pilots explain what they did to lower the gear in a spitfire and i began to make heavy flip-flaps and suddenly the right gear came down....
