Ok so i bought Assassin's Creed on the PC 4 days ago and i have completed it once already. I'm about to play through it again as i never got to see any of the emails or any such things with Desmond.

So my question is. Does the flags that you collect ingame have any significance, except to complete them? Do they give you extra information?

Simple answer: no. The only way you would get an achievement is if you play the Xbox 360 version.

Pride.

The OCD sense of accomplishment.

And then wonder why you even did all that see rap (decipher it if you have a brain) when it took you like six months of your life that you'll never get back.

'Least you HAD it for those 6 months.

{/said the PC user who had to use his friend for her PS3 once in a while}

Luckily, after seeing how many flags there were, I realized the Prima guide (or some equivalent, like the Maps (http://www.assassinscreed-maps.com/Maps.htm) site) was pretty much an essential to collecting all of them, before I ever got my PC version.

Yeah it's much quicker with the guide.
Still pointless.

No doubt.

The most fun of it, though, IMO, is to go around and see what you can find on your own, then use the guides as a supplement. That way, it's still fun, and doesn't completely feel like you're following a manual.

Yeah, there's no point of finding all the flags with the guide because you know you didn't actually find them yourself. If you find what you can and then use the guide if you're really stuck then you feel better than if you just use the guide for the whole game.
