I have just found a new add on for 1946 which is called Star of Africa release on 15th September 2008. It is by Desaster who compiled the World War II and Der Luftkrieg sets on dvd. For more information try their website where there is an english translation.
Basically you can fly as Hans M****ille in JG27 or in the Italian Air Force in a CR42 or the Desert Air Force in a Hurricane. There may be other flyable aircraft but it is not clear.
Hope this helps those wanting new campaigns.
Nice to see the support from developers is still going.
Also noted there is an Xbox version of Il2 due out in december 2009 !

Made me laugh to see your system censored the middle of Hans surname.

I wrote him a email a week ago he told me that
that is only for the German market since sales
in the U.S and GB are low and is expensive for him to make materials for the english version

What? no way, US market is huge and will glad to make English version! My pardon, GB would love to play that one in English too. I learned why many European people learn to speak English even better than us because it is money language.

I believe US has the most sales of IL2. More then any other country.

Is it not possible to fly this add on without a good knowledge of german. The mission details may be hard to decipher but the format would be the same.

Like I said is only for the German market

I wrote him the email because of his add-on wolrd war 2 Luftkrieg 1941 - 1945 which got me curious because of the good reviews @ Amazon Germany he told me that the only portion in english for world war 2 is Banzai and Case Blue that he included as a bonus but the new portions of WWII are in German and then he explain to me that the sales for his add ons where not so good in GB and the U.S. his last add on in English is Operation Overlord

I'm guessing here that he publish his add ons himself after Banzai and Case Blue (those where handled by X1 and Matrix) and he does everything (case cover, manual and CDs) and is
expensive to do those for the US and GB market

Thanks Atoa. I guess I will have to sit in the cockpit with a german dictionary to hand.
I have the other compilations but have not tried them yet. I have also seen the good reviews which a friend translated for me.
This latest addition gives me a chance to fly in the Italian Air Force aside from the excellent download campaigns available.
Anyway, I have just completed mission 120 in the Finnish career on Gladiator, Buffalo, and Bf109. When does this one end ? It has been a rewarding learning curve and I recommend the Buffalo in Finnish service as a good starting plane for newcomers.

If you plan to get it anyway I saw a thread @ m4today....there is some kind of mission tool there where you can extract the german briefing then you can copy that to nopepad translate that using google translator and you can insert the english translation back to the mission....now with so many mission that will be a daunting task not to mention that those translators are not perfect.

Regarding to campaings I'm new to the game so no campaings as for yet I'm going to start STRAIGHT FROM THE FARM from by Zeus-Cat because my interest is the pacific area and landing in a carrier is hard in IL-2 not to mention that I just got rudder pedals so that put me behind schedule lol

Cheers for that. I will look into it. As you say a lot of briefings will mean a lot of translation.
I tried carrier landing in a Wildcat but got finger ache from winding up the undercart. Ended up letting the pc do it.
Anyway, lots of other theatres to fly. The slovakian and Romanian careers were not as long as the Finnish and were rewarding. That IAR80 is like a sailplane after the Buffalo.
In the Pacific I have tried the Buffalo over Malaya or is it Singapore. I was a bit put off seeing Army Oscars escorting Navy Bettys but thats just nitpicking this wonderful sim.

Actually, compared to population, I've heard that the IL-2 has (so far!) sold best in Finland, Russia and other countries in the Eastern Europe coming close behind!

Just received my copy of Der Stern von Africa. For your info it ties in with version4.09b1 according to the accompanying booklet. There are several campaigns including 59 missions by M****ille or 60 by JG27 using the 109E7 and F4. A WDAF campaign of 75 missions using Glad Hurri 1 Hurri 2b Hurri 2c P40E and Spit 5c. The Italian campaign of 75 missions uses the CR42 G50 MC200 and MC202. Not sure about the G50 as I wasnt aware it was flyable.
Other aircraft appearing are F4F3 Blenheim V ? He111H Ju88A A20C Ju87B P40D/B.
You also get a printed map of the North African coast for use during flight.
I will have to wait for the official 4.09 issue which at this rate may be combined with a 4.10 but I have plenty to keep me amused till then.

Maybe that particular German ace should be henceforth known as Hans FrenchSouthernPortCity.

I think that even without a good knowledge of German you would be able to figure out your mission objectives by looking at the map icons in the briefing screen if the author put some there.

If the route shows a ground attack waypoint, try bringing something that goes !BOOM! when you drop it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif. At the very least just take off and follow the waypoints, if the author has used the standard speech pack you can figure out a lot of what's going on, especially if you've played the sim for a while.

Hans Joachim M_ars-e_ille.

It makes as much sense as filtering the dirty word out 'cockpit,' limiting informal discussions about Richard Bong or making salt-water fish into something pornographic. Hello, that's my assumption. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I like this image of a CR-42 "owning" a Hurricane (indeed!):

Hi Atoa. I do have several add ons but finding the time to get through them is a problem.
I am not sure if you know german or english or both. Some add ons are in both languages but usually in one or the other. Do you prefer one theatre or any of them.
Operation Overlord by Propisoft is intensive for the western front. Read the briefings carefully and avoid the flak if you want to survive. You can get this in the german package called Der Luftkrieg which I believe also includes Ostfront. I found the latter did not load properly as an individual add on but am told it is one of the best add ons.
The series by Plus Wave such as Wings over the Jungle, Wings over the Waves, Wings over Citadel, and The Fires Above give excellent variety for the pacific and eastern fronts.
X1 Software produced Case Blue and The Last Days. The latter is more variable in its mission content.
Desastersoft includes Case Blue and Banzai in his package World War II.
Most of these can be bought on ebay as well as their parent website. I prefer to buy direct as the companies are very helpful with any problems.
I am sorry I cannot be more specific as I am not sure what you prefer. Anyhow Overlord and Ostfront are my initial recommendations.
Perhaps other members can add their views as to what works for them but it is really down to individual likes and dislikes.
Hope this has been some help.
