View Full Version : Multiplayer mode

Is there going to be multiplayer mode in new Silent Hunter 5?

Is it only cooperative multiplayer?
Or do we get even surface ships for full multiplayer mode?
What do you think? (ofcourse we cant have it all)

Personally I would love to play Silent Hunter 5 as cooperative with 4-8 friends. To control whole Atlantic with wolfpack http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Maybe dynamic game so players could join and leave when ever they want. Server should not be bound to 1 player, So server wont close when creator leaves.

Unless one of the Dev Team chooses to "chime in" on this subject, ....I don't think anyone here knows the answers to your questions yet.

I know it's probably not my place to say this but I'm going to say it anyway!!!!!!!!!!

Everytime you post something you always suggest that YOU have some involvement with Ubisoft....either tell us YOUR connection to Ubisoft or stop posting your involvement, I KNOW that you don't but others who visit here 'may be lead up the garden path'. You are part of an online gaming clan and you have your own website...nothing more than that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ubisoft in Silenthunter 3 and Silent Hunter 4 HAVE provided servers for players to play online you cannot provide anything further!!!!!!

If it needs be I am going to 'slam' every post you put on here that claims otherwise and I WILL take any ban the moderators care to impose if it highlights that what you keep saying is a 'crock of ****!!!!!!!!'.

This is a re-post of an entry in another thread. (...Hey! ...Moderators get to do that! ....It's one of the few "perks" that come with the job! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)

**************

There are two issues that seem to keep surfacing in this (…and other) threads: …..”Wolfpacks” and “Multiplay”.

……..And while both of them may provide amusing options within the context of an “Entertainment Level Game”; …….It’s time for an historical “Reality Check”!

In Real Life, even during the “Glory Days” of Wolfpack activity, there was virtually NO tactical level communication between U-boats at sea.

They received orders and exchanged contact information with Headquarters:

They even overheard the radio transmissions from other boats:

....But the exchange of tactical level information while actually “on contact” was virtually non-existent. When a Wolfpack was actually attacking a convoy, the individual U-boats were essentially all conducting independent, individual attacks. Information on the status and position of the other U-boats in the pack was pretty much limited to listening to depth charges detonating in the distance. (….and as every GI has said all throughout history; “Better you than ME!” http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)

Frankly, …..I have always been amazed that significant numbers of U-boats weren’t lost to “friendly fire”!!

But just where does the historical reality leave us on the issues of “Wolfpacks” and “Multiplayer”???? …….Almost nowhere!!

Without the addition of historically inaccurate Tactical Level Communications between boats, both features can’t offer much to the Computer Gamer: …..And from my personal point of view, the only sort of “Multiplayer” environment that would be both historically accurate AND interesting would be one where the various players involved all “manned” various stations on the SAME U-boat!!

Think about it: …..Go back and re-read your books: ……Boat-to-Boat communications just didn’t happen often enough to be worth simulating!!

For me any forum, not just this one, is a medium for me to find out what is the 'current position' with regards to the subject that I am currently interested in.

When I come here I am seeking to find out about the game and upcoming releases and give any sort of feedback, comments and help that I deem appropriate, what I do not want to do is to be 'led up the garden path'.

This is probably one of the most honest forums I do visit and contains a lot of links to other sites and download areas where people visiting can download all forms of data which could, if users were mislead into visiting/downloading bad data, could cause irreperable damage to their computers.

The post I replied to was not the first in which that the 'writer' had suggested his involvement with Ubisoft, and I am seeking to clarify his position so that others, who do not visit here on a regular basis, are aware of his actual/none involement with the Ubisoft company.

Have you ever heard of the expression...'Put up or shut up'.

Just because this forum allows you to post whatever you want, within reason, it should not be the case that you should be able to claim things that are factually incorrect and are likely to mislead!!!!

Owner, you have the site in your sig no need to keep telling people to join every post you make, that's just spamming and also advertising, both of which are against the rules here.

In future, just content yourself with making normal posts, and if another member sees the link in your sig, and decides to visit, that's fine. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I think it wise to remind everyone that English is not the first language of many people that post here...thus sometimes misunderstandings can occur, as happened here. I had to read the supposed 'offending' post 3 times before I could see anything at all related to what Maverick was talking about. The best I could come up with was
"We hope with Ubisoft to provide this"
which I would expect he meant as "We hope UBI will provide this"
I am not familiar with Owners other posts that Maverick asserts are possibly misleading as regard to possible Ubi connections, but it is very very clear just from reading Owners posts here that he is not a native speaker of English and thus is very much entitled to a lot of benefit of the doubt, so to speak.

And I totally agree with you, that someone who's native tongue is not English should be firstly given credit for the fact that he is able to speak a second language and secondly that I should accept that something could be lost in the translation. I do not have a problem with that.

Forums do not give away personalties, but mine is not one that seeks out controversy, but does ALWAYS seek out the truth. The posts that this poster has posted before have implied that he has a business association with Ubisoft.

Lets put things in perspective....how hard is it to answer the question....

Have you any involvement with Ubisoft as you infer...Yes or No.

I am actually getting bored with him now, BUT I do try and help people out on this forum with 'multiplayer' issues and also try to steer them towards online flotillas who keep the online game alive...

Would I point anyone towards his 'online community group''??.. no I certainly would not and as a result of his evasiveness in answering a simple issue, which he created, I would go one further and PM anyone who sought advice and tell them to stay away from his site...I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.
