View Full Version : How Do You Use The AB cluster Bombs?

What is the proper method of employing the AB series of cluster bombs? Is there a prefered speed/altitude combination? Is there a prefered delay time to use?

I can't seem to hit squat with it, other than by accident, but when I do it really does some damage. I'd like to be able to use this weapon more effectively.

Any helpful hints?

measure ye mete, it shall be
measured to you again.

Fly in high enough to let it explode and disperse before hitting the ground so about 500 mtrs is good. Try and make your bomb run down the column of vehicles or whatever your trying to bomb to get maximum effect out of the bomblets. I don't use them often, I find whatever the AB500 can do a SC/SD500 can do as good if not better.

Line up and fly down the column of vehicles releasing munitions as you pass first vehicle passes under your nose from 100-500 m alt

Thanks all for the help. I have been doing some experimenting offline, and I've found that the casing opens up after about two seconds from dropping it. So, from a dive bomb run, you need to drop it at not much less than 700m, which is when the warning horn goes off in the Stuka. I haven't quite figured out how to employ it in a glide bombing run yet. The timing seems to be critical in order for the bomblets to end up on target. I'll keep trying though.

If anybody has any helpful hints, they would be welcomed.

They work well against trains.

The readme that came with the patch that first introduced them said to set delay to at least 3 seconds. before the patch they would damage stuff, but you would not get credit for the kills, but the patch seems to have fixed that.

When you use cluster bombs, the "bomb delay" setting controls how long it takes until the casing opens. The minimum delay is 3 seconds.

Cluster bombs work best when dropped from level flight. Dive bombing with them puts all the bomblets in a small area, which sort of defeats the purpose. ~S!~
