If youre into this plane and plastic modelling this might appeal.

Low-Flyer, have you built the Pavla kit in 1/72? If so, how much better is it than the old Airfix kit?
On my shelf I have in 1/48 Roy Sutherland's (Cooper Details) vacuum form kit, as well the Classic Airframe's kit which was based on Roy's.

I've never built a plastic Whirly http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif I'm sorely tempted to get one, of course; got quite a nice collection of Corgi die-casts on the go though. Might just build a Whirly one fine day and sneak it into the display cabinet. Would be obviously very interested in what Whirlies are available out there, and in what scales....can't see Corgi releasing one any time soon http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

There are three Whirlies kits out there available from your model dealers.

1/72nd scale has the venerable Airfix kit with raised panel lines, a very spartan cockpit and so-so decals.

Also, in 1/72nd scale is a kit from Pavla of the Czech Republic. Its a mixed media kit with resin and photo-etched brass parts for the injected moulded model. Recessed panel lines, vacuumformed canopy. Decent decals.

Classic Airframes has their 1/48th scale kit. Good detail (recessed panel lines), good cockpit details and decals. Its injected moulded, and based upon Roy Sutherland's vacuumform kit which was an excellent kit,as is the Classic Airframe's rendition of it.

Hmmmm... the dear old Airfix sounds like it might merge with the Corgi's. What sort of price are we looking at for the Pavla? Haven't made a kit for years, might well put that right after Chrimbo. Thanks.

It seems that the old Airfix kit might not be available. I believe I heard they sold that mould. The Pavla kit was at $17.96 US at squadron.com.

I'm pretty sure I can get an Airfix - there's a guy a few miles away from me specializing in old, unmade plastic kits. I'll keep my eyes open for the Pavla though, thanks. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Good luck finding the Whirlie. Its been one of my favorites. So far I have built the Airfix and I have two of the Pavla's.
I researched No. 263 Squadron and they had an interesting mix of aircraft. Flying Gladiators in Norway, atferwards they were re-built for the Whirlands, but with the production delays they flew Hurricane I's at the time of BoB. After getting the Whirlies and flying them for about 2 years they transitioned into Typhoons. The real No.263 was disbanded after the war, but immediately another squadron was re-numbered to them and flew Meteor Mk III's.
