So I thought I'd upload them!

There're also about 500 outstanding black and white ones - most of which I have never seen before. I should really have sorted them by resolution so the biggest are up top - sorry!

Do take the time to nose around, there're some real high-res gems in there.

A few I've really quickly picked out - definitely not the best examples but I'm in a rush!

Very good. I've used the site before but hadn'rt realised that you could search so well by categories. Here's 'aviation':

Amazing find!
I can relate the story behind the damaged Avenger, because I just happened to read 'Flyboys' by James Bradley recently, where this event is recorded. The pilot was Bob King, who was in a flight to attack the radio station at Chici Jima. Just before reaching the target, one of his flight members collided into his plane. Thinking he was about to crash, he ordered his gunner and radio man to jump out of the plane while he tried to keep the plane steady so they had a fair chance of getting out. In doing so, he found out he still had control over the plane, and made his way back to his carrier and safely got back. I can't recollect right now if he ditched the airplane or landed it, but anyway he survived this ordeal. In stark contrast with his crewmembers, who were captured by the Japanese.

I thought that happen to George Bush Sr too. I think he had two crewmen bail out only to survive himself not sure though.

There was a documentary on the Discovery Channel a few years ago that featured film of Bush being pulled on board the submarine that rescued him. As he walks towards the conning tower, he looks straight into the camera. Though the film is grainy, it's clearly him. I thought it amazing that the film clip survived and even more amazing that someone had it and recognized nearly 60 years later the significance of it.
