I am sailing out of Brest early 41 and plot my course. My usual path takes me across the channel at its mouth and then zig-zag south of Ireland then on to my target zone, in this case AM11. So I sit back put the time compression to 512 and wait for contacts. I am expecting to find 2-3 small merchants to boost my overall tonnage numbers, but that€s not what I find. Around 10:30pm, calls come out €œShip Bearing 330, moving slow, moving away€, ah my first kill of the run. I report to the bridge and start to look when, €œShip Bearing 010, moving slow, moving closer€¦Ship Bearing 013, moving slow, moving closer€¦Ship Bearing 025, moving slow, moving closer€¦€ and this goes on for about 2 minutes. I caught off guard, and hurriedly call for periscope depth, and ahead 1/3. I scramble to the periscope to find that I am about 5000m from am massive 12 ship convoy. About this time my sonar man makes out the Ship bearing 330 and calls out €œWarship, bearing 004, moving fast, closing€, and rush to find him in the scope€¦ I thought he had found me, when he turned hard back toward the convoy and slowly turns€¦ Being my fist convoy, and being new to the sub hunting mentality, I decided a crazy plan.

I dive to 25 meters, move toward the convoy and swing in behind the destroyer. So if you can imagine, I am about 1000 meters in front of the convoy and about 1500 meters behind the destroyer. I return to periscope depth and watch him do turns after turns and each time he always comes back to moving West by South West and drifts. So its on, I get all my fish ready for his next turn, and just as before he turns and drifts. I am about 1000m now, and fire tubes 1 and 2. Now during all this excitement, I have ignored the other warship contact at the rear of the convoy, but I have also ignored two more warship contacts at very long range. This is important for later. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I hit the destroyer and he slips most easily below the waves. Turning to the rear escort, I find him. A simple armed trawler, no depth charges, poorly manned. So I slow and drift into the convoy, and surface facing the armed trawler. I quickly man the Deck gun and start firing away. He is about 1500m and I have caught him off guard. I take some damage, but he is sunk and the convoy is mine!! I set my crew to firing the deck gun as I line up distant targets with my torpedoes.

I have sunk about 2/3€s of the convoy when I notice€¦ €œWe are under attack!€ about 5 seconds later I get rattled by several shells and I am taking damage fast€¦ I crash dive, and move to the sonar man for more understanding. Well it seems the convoy called in those long distant warships, which are 2 class C destroyers. We begin the cat and mouse game. I move to silent running and dive to 100 meters. The game continues for some time, and at one point I rest the boat on the bottom, 127 meters and wait. I escape, pretty beat up, but I am not done with that convoy!

After the destroyers move out of the area, I move and surface and set my repair crews to work. I close on the happy little convoy, and proceed to sink all but 3 small merchants.

Total Tonnage: 59812
Hull Integrity: 87%

By far the most fun I have had!!!!!
