First I have to thank you for the great sim you've done, although I find it bit too addictive http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I came across this site with lotsa documents, including axis & allied aircraft and ammunition tests, manuals etc.
I assume you don't have time to compare these to their virtual counterparts in PF, but I hope you'll take a look at them before BoB is released http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Especially weapons tests section is impressive.

( I'm assuming you haven't seen these.. )

Definately bookmarking this site http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Great find Hurri-Khan and an interesting read.

Any chance you have any more official sources regarding various .50 caliber ammunition types used during WW2?

Lots of excellent info there but I have a concern about copyright infringement. I hope I'm wrong but those guys could find themselves in trouble if an existing publisher finds out what they've done. It would be a great shame though because theres a need for sites like that.

No worries there on that front. P.R.O stands for Public Records Offfice; these documents are government records and are FREELY available to the public, they are not owned or trademarked by any company, whatsoever.

I have had this page bookmerked for about 2 years, it pops up on the boards every 4 months or so. Last time I used it was to email 1C about Hurricane bomb load-outs.

Oh, I'm not the most frequent visitor in these forums, sorry for digging it up again http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'm sure Oleg already has similiar records from VVS archieves, but RAF data in comparison might be helpful.

WOW. VERY GOOD post. Those documents are SO VALUABLE!!! They are first hand accounts of real life tests straight from the second world war, with no 'Chineese Whisper' effects to distort things.

Something I found interesting was about some of the errors Oleg's team have made when flight modelling the Fw190. For example,

1. the documents say that the Fw190 has better acceleration and climb than the Spitfire V, but in IL2FB, the Fw 190 has worse acceleration and climb.

2. the documents say that the Fw190 has better acceleration, and better INITIAL climb rate than the Spitfire IX!!! In Oleg's sim the Fw190 has neither better acceleration OR initial climb!!! Oleg take note!

3. the documents show the gunsight should offer better downward vision than that of a Spitfire! Currently the gunsight in the Fw190 has the worst vision in the game! Oleg take note!

This post confirms to me that the Fw190 may have been a good aircraft in real life. Sure it can't turn as well as a Spitfire, but I had let this simulation fool me into thinking that all the history books had been wrong when they talked of the good points of a Fw190. Still something nagging in my head told me that the 190 couldn't have been THAT bad, even though I had faith in the realism of IL2.

I seriously think the Fw190 should be given a lot of re-working on its flight model because currently it has no advantages over any Allied planes, and it shows online. They get their asses kicked every time.
