Why? I would at least like an explanation before a thread is closed, especially when the thread has nothing wrong with it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Danjama, extreemly inflammatory material and perhaps a complete lack of common sense would be my guess.

Seriously, if you want to start a political flame-fest, go to a politics website. This is a flight sim web-board. Discussions can veeer into politics, but should very rarely start there.

Oh, I don't know. I like the "full and free exchange of views". It amazes me that people get so upset when some faceless poster says something they don't like. It's just words.

Incidentally, viz Iran, it has nothing to do with the nuclear smoke screen.

Challenging the moderators with this type of thread is sure to make your frustrations even worse. Nobody here has the 'right' to post anything; anything you post can be editted locked or deleted, and you agreed to that rule when you signed up

What can I say? Chalk this up to experience

All OT material is lockable according to the rules. A fair bit of it slides under the radar, but contemporary politics (particularly in a politically hot area like the middle east) is an immediate lock no matter how civil as it is a very unusual day that it doesn't blow up very quickly. Often when the culprit is a regular poster it also includes a suspension if the moderator concerned thinks there may be some baiting involved.

In case you're interested, it wasn't me.

Danjama,

I'm not a moderator so I cannot comment on why they lock one thread, while leaving another full of complete insanity and insults run amuck. I€ve seen polite discussions locked and several polite questions locked before they even had a chance to get off the ground. It baffled me as well. The weak explanations that €œit was a time bomb flame war waiting to happen€ do not justify their actions. I€ve witnessed out right flame wars, much name calling, nationalistic insults, and the like continue on for dozens of pages. I€ve reported people who bluntly insulted me and included the clever spelling of vulgar language. For example €œthe ***ing L is on your forehead Loser.€ Nothing was done of it or was much done about all the other insulting and €œinflammatory comments€ that I€ve seen and some of which I reported.

The bottom line is that we do not directly pay for this forum so the €œpowers that be€ may do as they please. I would guess the only thing that could be done would be to write an e-mail to UBI games and bring your concerns to their attention. As for me, I don't try and understand moderators or am I interested in getting into whizzing contests with them.

Ha ha ha, young and impressionable Danjama (and voted "best community spanker"), you crack me up.

Sorry, I didn`t read the whole thread but only your first post.

Current politics are taboo here and ubi and the mods are quite clear about this. But fear not little grasshopper, there is a solution.

Suggestion # 3829

One week before you open the topic, in pt, open a thread with an invitation for the community.

Example:

On week from today, I will start a pt topic and am inviting anyone interested.

Topic; Current Politics
Sub topic; Iran's Nuke Program, take it or leave it.

Anyone interested in joining must post the fact they want to join in this thread. All are welcome.

Nothing on this topic is to be dicussed in this GD thread.

Kind Regards,
YID(the young and impressionable Danjama)

I believe this is the only way to go Dan. I have intentions of doing this also but only when I am sure I can frequently use a pc.

Another bonus is that those interested would have upto a week to do some research prior to the topic.

Just a suggestion.

It just the focus of their education system. Focused on internal issues in an isolacionist fashion. You get surprized only because you had a different education....

I remember in the 80´s when a TV channel, don ´t remember wich one, made a fast research in 2 cities of US (NY and another one I don ´t remember). They showed the world map and asked to point where SOVIET UNION WAS ! If I remember well, 87% of people could not point it.

That is really strange.. why? Ok, If you know URSS is not US neither CANADA or Mexico( your neighbors) and is not in the water. You have only an amount of land available to point , from wich URSS is BIGEGR than 13% !!! Just random answers should give better results.. lol.

How did the move go? Holidays?

and a late happy new year to you! </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Thanx Dude(capital "D" represents respect, dammit) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

He he he, the move didn`t go so well, but that will be another thread. I already wrote some of the highlights to Dasriech and I think he got as much, or more, of a laugh than I did. Really, it was a 120 episode soap opera. I`ll tell more later.

Anyways, I`m here in the "Vaterland" and everything is coming together. The beer is cold and fresh and the pizza schnitzel is great. My Lederhosen is at the cleaners. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Happy New Year to you and your family Dan, and to everyone in this forum and their families.

BTW, Dan, still wanna learn Greek? Say the word and I`ll get the ball rolling. I have a plan. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Golden(brass) Monkey, those Valhalla kitten are the coolest. Still don`t know which mod put them their but it was a nice surprise. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Ganz, ganz, geil!

Brems, you know all Bahnhofs have bars. Soon I`ll have to take a trip to Bonn. I know you located along the path from Bamberg to Bonn. I think couple of beers at the Bahnhof sounds good, oder? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Well, our Bahnhof only has a "D¶nerbude" - but I guess that'll still stisfy our need for a good'n cheap meal and some cool beer. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Tell me when you plan to pass over here since I'm still in military service and my spare-time is somewhat limited http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I`ll do that. In fact, I`ll make a thread for it. There are a few other posters in your area. Maybe we could have a little IL-2 meet and talk about the mods. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

Is one week enough notice? I`m quite flexible with my schedule. I think, by train, we`re only less than 2 hours apart or less. I know the ICE hits 340 plus kph near your area. We only need to figure out how to stop it.(Red lever on the wall?) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Well, I'm living close to Düsseldorf.

The only places where it stops near my place are "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof", "Düsseldorf Flughafen" and "Essen Hauptbahnhof" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I know that Anknaor lives (or lived ??) in Essen though http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Isnt there some Country and Western song that goes along the lines of the singer saying he "aint no political man" and that he doesnt "know the difference between Iran and Iraq".....?Guess the same goes for North and South Korea....(the latter of which incidentally has the best educational system in the world....bet THEY know the difference!)
