Tea on the other hand is rich in healthy anti-oxidants mainly Green tea , which isnt as nice a flavour but has a much higher concentration of the good stuff

caffenoids also have beneficial as well as harmfull side effects IIRC

Physically addicted, that€s pretty extreme. It has been linked to a lot of bad stuff, then a lot of good stuff, largely having to do with caffeine. It depends on who€s doing the study, who€s paying etc. It can do good, like some wine tho for the opposite affect.

Our coffee houses largely began in the early 60s, I believe we got the idea from the Brits; and drinking cappuccino from the Italians. My grandfather drank a good 4+ cups a day and lived into his 90s. Me thinks you have to unlearn a few things and learn a few things, but if you enjoy green tea... how spiritual.

It's the sugar here that's a real killer. I drink my coffee not too strong and with only a bit of milk. Refined Sugar is released of all accompiing anti-oxidants, leaving stuff which is in fact toxic to your body, disrupting immonological and hormonal processes, the latter mainly in the sugar-blood-level area. indegious Funghi and bacteria are feeding on it, and the pancreas gets a blow with each swallow. That your body uses dextrose and similar stuff does not mean it is perfectly healthy to consume it.
So, compromise, take coffe withouth the five. Or at least try a lump or 4 less..

Pretty much always Tea. Good old fashioned mashed tea (sometimes with 2 tea bags). Some milk, not too much and one sugar. Earl greys nice if you`re in the mood.

As for coffee I really am not a fan of it. People complain about caffeine in tea, but I really notice its effects in coffee. If I have more than 2 cups at a time I get a headache. I`ll have coffee if I`m desperate to keep awake. In fact I reckon if less people drank coffee, the world would be a better place! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Tea: relaxing.

Coffee: Stressful.

About 1/10 times I mange to make the perfect tea from Heaven, but I can never reproduce the effect twice in a row!

mainly Green tea , which isnt as nice a flavour but has a much higher concentration of the good stuff

It grows on you, a bit like Guiness. No one in their right minds would ever drink Guiness again based on their first impressions. Green tea, weak and whimpy as it first appears, compared to something like Yorkshire Tea which'll put bristels on your brush, eventually becomes like Mozart to the Yorkshire Tea's Sex Pistols. I got into Green Tea after a year drinking Indian Chai which is sort of like milky tea-flavoured cocaine. After a year on extreme tea I was ready for the green stuff.

After the 'epiphany' you can never go back. Not that I don't like the Pistols you understand (more of a Clash man myself) but Beethoven they ain't.

The proof that coffee is addictive is in the fact that people will continue to drink it when no sugar is available.

Black and sweet is the only way.
Mind you, a cup of Masala Chai is even better - sweet and milky.

But at night, for DF's - wine ! It helps you relax and accept your umpteenth death with equanimity. ( In moderation of course, too much and you can't even take off ). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I recently had to depend on coffee for a good two weeks during the exams. I drank it half coffee, half milk, with sugar, cacao and a hint of cinnamon http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif wEnt for akmost a liter a day. I quit immediately after my exams and now I get sick from the coffee smell in my cupboard. Tea wins hands down.

my father is a bit into alternative medicine and I actually grew up drinking quite a lot of herbal tea. My favorite was wild menthol and wild thyme Dad gathers it by himself and to tell you the truth, the stuff actually works. I remember last Christmas I was visiting him and got cough. Now for me this is nasty, because in my case it means tonsilitis a few days later, antibiotics, etc. So what dad did was make a herbal tea(I think thyme) and added a coulple of cracked walnuts nuts and walls together. a few hours later I was back online in perfect health http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As most Norwegians, I drink coffee. Norwegian style is fairly close to "American coffee", rather watery and with no white stuff or sugar. I'm no connoisseur mind you, I drink the instant stuff.

This summer I partook in a one week live role-play session set in cowboy setting. As I couldn€t fake an American accent even if my life depended on it, I played an Englishman (I can do a British accent tolerably well). This meant also drinking black tea by the pint (and pretending to like it), and now I seem to have grown a bit of addiction to the stuff.

Give someone a grant and they will discover that mothers milk causes cancer. It's gotten to the point that I just don't listen to all those scare tatics anymore. As soon as one person/group says something will kill you another person/group "proves" it's beneficial.
My philosophy, everything in moderation, nothing in excess.
Therefore I voted coffee, the darker the roast the better, freshly ground from the bean with some 1/2 and 1/2, no sugar.
As for caffine addiction, pfttt!

I have to stop typing now and get some more coffee before I mangle something.

This ain't connoisseur stuff either. It's just good coffee, roasted and ground in Louisiana. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I take mine with a little sugar. Half and half cream on "special occasions". And when you can't handle the full caffeine load, drink the 50/50 coffee which has half the caffeine.

Coffee wins every time. On a side note, in medical school I observed patients receiving intravenous caffeine to lower seizure threshold before electroconvulsive therapy. These are people completely debilitated by major depresseion. Anyway, I always wondered what the street value of that intravenouse caffeine would be to my fellow classmates....

I like tea in the winter when it helps to just warm up in the afternoon, but coffee wins hands down. Two cups a morning, straight. I've read that coffee is only "bad" in high doses, ie. the 100 mg from two cups won't hurt and may help. Studies have shown that coffee drinkers have much lower suicide rates.

If i were to choose one of the two for once-twice a month that would be tea. Coffee smells nicer, but i feel something's wrong with it (paranoid?! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif) and i only drink it socially. Tea fits to a calmer lifestyle. No wonder why North/South Americans, Mediterraneans etc. prefer coffee http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif, while British and Asians prefer tea-like drinks.

I drink coffee. I am not one of those boobs who confuses his taste in coffee with his manhood. I drink what I like. Period.

I grind my own beans very fine (sounds painful, doesn't it?). Medium roast (Gevalia, anyone?), brewed at medium strength - none of that vile dark French roast for me, thank you, I prefer to use turpentine if I'm going to remove paint. Two quarts a day before lunch, the first 16oz cup with a big splash of heavy cream and two teaspoons of clover honey, and simply refreshed with the remainder of the pot thereafter.

On weekends, I toss a stick or two of cinnamon into the pot as it brews. In winter, I've been known to add a packet of instant cocoa to a cuppa.

cheers

Neither. To quote Dean from the Iron Giant:

"Expresso...it's like coffee-zilla"

A properly made expresso is the way coffee ought to be. Not bitter, not too much caffiene.

And AFAIK their is NO medical evidence that moderate consumption of caffiene (regardless of it's origin in tea, coffee, or whatever) is bad for you in any way. In fact, some people simply perform better on simple tests like adding numbers after drinking caffiene. Others, well, it just makes them jittery. Vive la difference !

The reason why people like coffee is simple. It has a rich taste. By that I mean there are a large number of different chemicals in coffee that create flavor and humans like to eat and drink things with complex tastes. See: chocolate, (real) beer, steak, etc.

I am cuban and can tell you that my grandmother lived till 99 drinking pots and pots of espresso each and every day!!Her sister lived to 103 on same carcinogenic stuff.I dont know if its known in these boards but Cubans love their coffee. They drink Espresso, which is just a super super strong cup of coffee for those that didnt know it.Its made under pressure instead of just dripped thru the coffee beans like regular coffee.

My favorite is Cuban cafe con leche. You take a mug of warmed milk and add a shot of espresso to it.Have many memories of being a young kid and going to visit grandma and she would make a pot of espresso and add me a shot to a mug of milk.My memory is strongly tied to how wired I used to get http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gifWould always HAVE to leave about 20 minutes later....lol....maybe she didnt want me there and thats why she made it so strong everytime http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gifjust kidding.

Yes the teeth will disolve faster in the OJ but orange juice has an alkaline ash residue after digestion. What this means is that the cola will go into body and leaches calcium from bones to neutralize the acid from soda while the OJ becomes alkaline upon digestion. The same is true of lemons which are super acididic and which are the most alkalizing fruit once in the body.

The leaching of calcium is dependant upon how much buffer reserve the body has.If your buffer reserves are depleted than that cup of cola will start eating your bones away from the inside out.

Coffee heavy-user here, I prefer Davidoff or Segafredo (you hatto look wat u drink) whenever possible, 3-4 coffees a day being avarage quota, but I also have green tea now and then for a change. Coffee can really kill your stomach, and it makes you just more tired after a point.

I guess it`s comes down to the purpose. Coffee is an instant MW50 booster, that kicks in quickly but bad on the long term. Tea, especially green is less drastic has a more lasting effect. So, coffee to get things moving, tea during the day, beer in the evening, and don`t forget to smoke in the intervals. Short life, but a merry one. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The best poll in months http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I like the way you made it "on-topic"

I voted coffee. Because I have a slight addiction for it. Don't say Coffee is bad for you, Tea is just as bad, with all kinds of horiffic acids in it. So, for our good health, we shouldn't drink both of the drinks.

But then again, oxygen is also bad for you. Oxygen is used and the by-product (free radicals I thought) is released in your body and speeds up the ageing. So, stopping to breath should be healty for you too. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
