View Full Version : A Thought About A Forum Passing.

This place is growing ever more irrelevant.

Any real game info is second hand stuff linked from what is now the real Maddox Games forum.

The same old subjects are endlessly flamed over, with no resolution.

One bizzare post after another about, well, nothing really.

Newbies that do find their way here are mercilessly trashed for no reason at all.

ETC...

Bah, IL2 is dead.

This forums status and the status of the wider IL2 community are not the same thing. IL-2 is not dead. You can argue that the forum might be...but the game is not. Best not to confuse them in my view.

could it be that no one has anything to complain about and 1946 is molded into perfection? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

I can think of infinitely more important things to worry about. When BOB is FINALLY released there will be the gathering of the clans. As the posts on this forum have demonstrated for several years---it's just the same old same old processed over and over again. I feel like I am on an infinite loop.

It's bound to be like that though Leit. Nobody is going to come up with anything new on WWII. I still find this place enetertaining, and, dare I say, fun.

This is the Il-2 waiting room. Anyone who expects it to be a place of considered historical and technical debate is completely out of their minds. It's a game for ages eight and up after all.

I just like to come in here to enjoy the wit and banter of certain individuals. Admire their inventiveness and off the wall comments. I like their irreverence and self deprecation. I appreciate their irrepressible larrikin spirit through the ups and downs of this insane niche interest. I most certainly do not come here for the stupid verbal buggery of Tagert, Kurfurst, Brain32 and the rest of the armchair ******s.

This is the Il-2 waiting room. Hang out here until the next big sim comes out. Chuck the cushions about, kick the furniture, have a few laughs with a bunch of guys from all over the world - Good people who all have a love of old aeroplanes as something in common. Poke fun at the ones who try to talk shop too much. Don't take it all so seriously. Do that, and you'll find there is years left in this forum.

I was looking through the older threads, where people still actually compared aircraft in game, discussed tactics against... well the La-7, Ki-84 and Yak-3 mostly. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

It was actually shocking how relevant the posts were.

On the other hand, It's also shocking how much fun the forum is now.

I like to imagine it as a mess hall where virtual pilots joke. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Any real game info is second hand stuff linked from what is now the real Maddox Games forum.

And that site is about as exciting as watching paint peel off a wall.

The only stuff going on in the IL2 world that matters is at or linked from M4T, FL and that other, source of all evil, site.

This place has become the IL2 Nursing Home.

What made this forum vibrant in the past regarding the game was the thought that we might be able to improve/influence things. Demonstrate that something worked a certain way in RL and it might be fixed. Lobby hard for really needed maps and simple new ground objects... OK, that part was ignored, but you get the idea.

A forum with those elements of forward thinking, and constructive commentary resulting in actual changes would be a vibrant place indeed.

The only time it was like that was in 2001-2003.

History of this forum

2001-2002/3 - Debate about improvements, suggestions for addons and RayBanJockey

2003/4-2006 - Whining, Chart Monkeys, Kurfurst

2007-2008 - Humor, Satire (probably a back lash against the whining), Cheerleaders, Trolls, Spammers, Gerneral Hilarity, and more casual less heated aviation debate.

I find it amazing this forums still lively. Has been great to watch it kind of evolve.

A forum about nothing...Seinfeld would love it here!

Well, it should be either moderated properly or not at all.

I participate in a couple of unmoderated fora, and it works OK.

I also participate in a couple of moderated fora, and that's cool too.

But what we have here is a forum that's lazily moderated to a secret agenda (I say that because the moderation bears no resemblance to the TOS) and that's really tiring.

Hi all,

I say that this Forum has something for everyone.

See the recent post about help for a Seafire restoration project. In no time real help has been offered. There are some very knowledgeable posters here http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Yes,there are 'fun' posts but you don't have to read them.

I've also learned a lot from 're-cycled' old subjects also.

This is an unique and dynamic military forum http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Just my take on it all!

Best Regards,
MB_Avro.
